With Coronavirus (COVID19) entry in India, the corona infected patients are increasing day by day. The Healthcare system has informed to postpone all other important surgeries amidst the corona. They have instructed to set aside beds, prepare isolation facilities, procure ventilators, and manpower to combat the COVID-19.

A small survey finds that it is not only hospitals or doctors that postponing the major surgeries but some patients are canceling elective procedures because of the outbreak. Many doctors say they are seeing patients canceling or deferring procedures because of Corona’s fear.

So, to know the reason behind postponing surgeries and not visiting doctors during Corona, Jugaadin News has Dr. Amit Saini at its Talk @Jugaadin News. Dr. Amit Saini is a leading orthopedician at Sapra Multispeciality Hospital, Hisar. While addressing he says that the cancellation of procedures so far has been minimal, but with spreading viruses more patients are changing their plans to stop the spread of coronavirus.

If I talk about ortho surgeries like knee replacement, hip replacement, carpal tunnel surgeries patients who had scheduled their surgeries are now postponing procedures to avoid exposure to Corona. Patients are likely to see healthcare facilities as high-risk areas for exposure to infectious coronavirus. Though they are taking the right step during quarantine time, but they should follow some precautions so as not to come across any emergency.

Patients who have postponed their surgeries should always be in contact with the concerned doctor through telephonic or Messenger. If they see any emergency or medical condition, they should consult the medical practitioner as early as possible. They must have enough stock of prescribed medications with them. They should take all the precautionary measures against corona. There is no need to panic if surgery gets delayed by 5 to10 days said Dr. Amit saini.

We as Health care providers are delaying elective care to keep beds open and to prevent patients from contracting a new coronavirus, but this does not mean that patients should be cut off from life-saving treatment if needed.

Bones provide the basic structure to the human body. Bones also play other functions like protecting the organs, attaching muscles, etc. As a person ages, the bone density keeps on decreasing because the born formation process slows down and old bone degeneration process fastens up which ultimately leads to osteoporosis. In osteoporosis, bones may become thin and break easily.

Osteoporosis

Dr. Amit Saini, Best orthopedician and knee replacement surgeon in Hisar suggests that “Osteoporosis can be prevented by taking a healthy diet and nutrients; it may reduce bone loss. He is suggesting some ways through which bone mass density can be maintained and a person can enjoy a happy life without feeling pain in bones and joints.

Ways to follow for healthy bones:

1. Take plenty of calcium and vitamin D: For bones to be strong and flexible, calcium-rich diet is necessary and for the absorption of calcium, vitamin D is essential. Good sources of calcium include dairy products, almonds, broccoli, kale, salmon, sardines and soy products. The natural and best source of getting vitamin D is Sunlight. The other major sources are mushrooms, eggs, fortified foods, milk and cereals, salmon, trout, whitefish, and tuna. The Institute of Medicine recommends 1,000 mg of calcium a day for most adults and 1,200 mg/day for women after menopause and men after 70.

2. Be physically active: a person should walk, run, dance, do yoga and aerobics on a regular basis for at least 30 minutes a day to keep bones healthy and strong. A physically active person is at less risk of getting osteoporosis as compared to less active.

3. Quit smoking and Drinking: Loss of bone mineral density is associated with smoking and excessive alcohol consumption. Limit the dosage of smoking and alcohol to prevent the loss of bones as bad habits bring bad health.

4. Limit the use of Caffeine and Soda: an orthopedician suggests limited use of caffeine and cola drinks if one is suffering from joint pain and less bone mass density as caffeine can decrease the absorption of calcium in the body.

5. Eat vitamin-c rich food: Vitamin C is meant to stimulate the production of bone-forming cells, thus the intake of vitamin c is essential for bones.

Anyone can take or follow these steps to stop the “thinning” of bones, called osteopenia, and prevent osteoporosis. Consult your doctor if you are worried about your bone health or osteoporosis risk factors. An orthopedician may recommend a bone density check. The results will help your orthopedist to know your bone density and can assess your bone loss rate.

Generally, we see people visit orthopedician when they suffer from back pain. Sometimes, sciatica pain is misunderstood with back pain. But if we study, sciatica pain is not limited to back only, it affects buttocks, down the legs, ending just below the knee. Sciatica pain occurs whenever any irritation occurs in the sciatic nerve. Sciatica nerve being the longest nerve in the human body goes through buttocks, legs below the knee.

Dr. Amit Saini, Orthopedician at Sapra Multispecialty Hospital informs that Sciatica pain can be mild to severe and makes a person unable in standing, sitting, walking and sleeping. He explained the cause of sciatica as when any irritation or disturbance comes in the lower lumbar and lumbosacral spine, sciatica pain arises.

The sciatica pain causes may include

1. Lumbar herniated disc: according to a study research, 90 percent of sciatica pain is caused by a lumbar herniated disc. The herniated disc typically compresses one or more spinal nerve roots (L4-S3) that form the sciatic nerve. It can cause sciatica pain in two ways: Direct compression and chemical inflammation.

2. Degeneration of tissues: Degenerated intervertebral discs may secrete inflammatory proteins, causing inflammation of the sciatic nerve.

Spondylolisthesis

3. Spondylolisthesis: a condition in which one spine vertebrae slips over another one which causes pain.

4. Muscle strains and sprains

5. Narrowing of the spinal canal in the lower back, a condition known as lumbar spinal stenosis.

6. Sometimes, obesity, less physical activity and sleeping postures can also cause sciatica pain.

Symptoms
of Sciatica pain

Sciatica pain as the name indicates the pain in sciatica nerve which captures lower back, buttocks, goes till the toe and foot of either leg. Numbness and sensation in either leg or both legs for a short period or may extend to a longer period. The pain can be mild to severe.

Relief
from Sciatica pain

Certain exercises and treatment plans are
there that may help you in getting relief from Sciatica pain.

1. Over
the counter painkillers

2. Some stretches are there which help in reducing the
pain are knees to chest, cobra stretch, seated hip stretch, standing hamstring stretch,
knee to shoulder and many more.

3. Ice: Icing the area for a few minutes several times a day

4. Prevention of sciatica isn’t always possible. However, some modifications to the lifestyle can significantly help reduce the risk of a person experiencing sciatica again. Regular exercise and building a strong body can in general help prevent sciatica. In addition, it is important to maintain a good posture while sitting and standing and may make people less likely to develop sciatica than those with poor posture.

Consult an expert orthopedician in Hissar if you think you may be suffering from the sciatica pain. An orthopedist will have to perform a thorough physical examination and perform tests to make sure you don’t suffer from anything else before starting the treatment.

When we overuse any muscle or ligament, it underwent strain which causes pain. At the top of the thigh and pelvic region, flexible muscle tissues are located called Hip Flexors. Hip flexors help in bending and flexing of knees. When these muscles undergo overstretching and overuse, hip flexors strain to occur. Hip flexor strain can be quite painful when left untreated. This is a common orthopedic condition but requires an orthopedician consultation and treatment on time.

Typically, this orthopedic injury occurs when too much use of the hip flexor muscles and tendons causes stretching or tearing. Cyclists, Dancers, Football players, martial arts players are active people who may be at a higher risk to hip flexor strains than others.

The severity of Hip Flexor strains are divided into 3
grades:

Grade 1: In this, Hip generally works normally but small tear damages a few fibers.

Grade 2: In this, mild pain occurs during walking and sitting as several muscle fibers are damaged.

Grade 3: In this, the complete damage to Hip is there which makes impossible to walk, sit and doing daily chores.

Grades of Hip Flexor Strain

HIP FLEXOR STRAIN SYMPTOMS:

According to Dr. Amit Saini, Orthopedician at Sapra Multispecialty Hospital Hisar, the various symptoms that a Hip flexor strain can cause are:

Pain in Hip and Pelvis

Pain during walking and climbing stairs

Muscle cramps

Swelling and inflammation in Hip and Thigh

Difficulty in lifting the knee towards the chest

Being an Orthopedician, I suggest a 10-to 15-minute of applying ice to the affected area. Also, advise avoiding activities that overuse your hip flexors. Furthermore, gentle stretching exercises can help to reduce muscle tension. Recovery time is often dependent on the injury’s severity. Mild strains can take a couple of weeks to heal, while severe strains can take up to six weeks or more to fully recover.

Foot and ankle are the most neglected body parts by Humans. They do not pay attention to them unless and until they start getting hurt. Foot and Ankle are the parts that help a human in standing, walking and doing regular chores. Pain and discomfort in the foot and ankle give an alarm that something is wrong. With the help of an orthopedist, find the source of pain and get remedy as early as possible.

Dr. Amit Saini, Orthopedician at Sapra Multispeciality Hospital discusses foot and ankle injuries common in the humans are:

1. Achilles Tendonitis: The Achilles tendon that connects the calf muscles to the heel when get inflamed due to overuse is termed as Achilles Tendonitis. If not taken proper treatment, the Achilles tendonitis can lead to Achilles’s tear or rupture. Symptoms are recurring pain in the back of heel, mild swelling and tenderness.

2. Ankle Sprain: Ligaments are the thick fibrous connective tissue that connects one bone to other bone and injury to the ligaments causes a sprain in the body. Ankle sprains occur during sports injuries and walking on uneven surfaces. It causes swelling, bruising, pain and difficulty in walking.

3. Stress fractures: When a large pressure or force is applied on a bone and it is not able to bear it then occur the stress fractures. Stress fractures are small breaks or cracks in a bone. Stress fractures are common in weight-bearing bones of the foot, leg, and pelvis. The person who is more indulge in walking, running and jumping with heavyweights like field athletes and military recruits are more prone to this.

4. Plantar Fasciitis: This is the most common foot and ankle injury that occur in human beings. In this, a band of tissue called plantar fascia gets swollen and inflamed which causes pain in the heel. It occurs in those who spend a long period of time on their feet.

5. Turf Toe: Turf toe “is the common term used to describe a ligament sprain around the big toe joint. While it is commonly associated with football players playing on artificial turf, it affects athletes in other sports. It’s a condition caused by jamming the big toe or forcefully pushing the big toe off again and again.

When a large pressure or force is applied on a bone and it is not able to bear it, then it occurs the stress fractures. Stress fractures are small breaks or cracks in a bone. Weakening of bones due to osteoporosis can also lead to Stress fractures. Stress fractures are common in weight-bearing bones of the foot, leg, and pelvis. The person who is more indulge in walking, running and jumping with heavyweights like field athletes and military recruits are more prone to this.

Dr. Amit Saini (Orthopedician and Joint Replacement Surgeon at Hisar) explained that fractures occur when a single large force is applied on the bone whereas stress fractures caused by overuse of bones and the failure to have adequate equipment to protect the body.

Symptoms of Stress fractures

At first, stress fractures are not painful, but over time the pain worsens. With physical activity and weight-bearing, the pain usually intensifies and subsides with rest. There may also be swelling and inflammation around the affected area. Localized swelling can occur at the injury site, and if the area is touched, spot tenderness can occur.

People who are more indulge in activities like playing, running, gymnastics and field tracks are more prone to stress fractures as their bones are in constant pressure with the ground.

If you are suffering from a Stress fracture

Consult an expert Orthopedician in Hissar if you think you may be suffering from a stress fracture. An orthopedist will have to perform a thorough physical examination and perform tests to make sure you don’t suffer from anything else before starting the treatment.

For fast recovery from a stress fracture, Rest is a key solution. Patients should avoid the activity that caused the fracture until complete healing of the injury. Otherwise, the risk of re-injury is present, which usually takes longer to heal. Patients may also wear braces and inserts to stabilize the injured part of the body and help the bone heal more quickly.

Our body joints are connected through a band of tissues called Ligaments. The knee joint has a key ligament called Anterior cruciate Ligament (ACL) which connects the thighbone (femur) to shinbone (tibia) and helps in stabilizing the knee joint. This ACL gets injured in sports and athlete persons more as compare to any other normal individual. ACL can tear at any age and more often in individuals who are indulged in sports like soccer, football, basketball or volleyball.

How an ACL can tear

The main reasons for getting ACL tear are when you stop suddenly while running, Jumping or landing with straightened Knee and abruptly stretching the knee.

Dr. Amit Saini (Leading orthopedician in Hisar) telling the symptoms of torn out ACL which usually include: popping sensation in the knee, swelling, severe pain, and instability. Based on the severity of ACL, orthopedician suggest you rest or surgery as a treatment option.

After your ACL surgery, the body requires a long time for rehabilitation. But this long rehabilitation time is not liked by sports people. They always wanted to go back to sports as soon as possible. But there must be some tips that they should follow after the reconstruction includes:

1. Reduce the swelling

After the surgery, elevate your leg as much as possible. Do the cold compressing technique to get relieved from the swelling.

2. Use Knee Support

Always use the Knee support, before going to any activity or
sports. Knee Brace is very necessary for an individual who has undergone ACL
surgery.

3. Do exercises to
keep the blood moving in your foot, ankle, and leg so that no blood clot
occurs.

4. Consult the physical therapist who will give you an
exercise program to help you build strength in your knee and avoid injury.

5. Rest as much as possible.

6. Think positive and stay motivated during the
rehabilitation time as most of the patients are not able to return to their
sports just because of their lack of will power and motivation.

If you have any questions about ACL tear surgery or rehabilitation, consult the orthopedician.

Pain is the communication tool that the body uses to express when something which is not suitable to our body occurs. Pain can be caused due to no. of reasons and every individual have a different perspective to deal with it. Some try to heal it with medicines and others with home remedies. Thus, people having different experiences related to pain, it can be classified into two forms mainly, Acute and Chronic Pain.

Acute and Chronic Pain

Acute is that form of pain that occurs suddenly and lasts for a short period only. It can occur when an injury occurs to tissue, bone or muscle whereas chronic pain lasts longer and occurs due to some long term illness. It can be due to tissue damage also.

Knee pain or joint pain is a chronic pain condition that causes a person to suffer every now and then. It causes hurdles in the progress of an individual. Joint pain can be defined as pain or other discomforts in one or more joints. It can be caused due to an injury to any of the structures such as ligaments, bones, or tendons surrounding the joint. Thus it is important to secure the joint by maintaining the health of surrounding ligaments.

Here are some tips Dr. Amit Saini recommends everyone should follow to maintain healthy joints:

Shed weight, if obese: Knees are the pillars of the human body that carry whole weight. If a person is having extra weight than require, pillars will get damaged. Thus, to reduce pressure on the knees, a person should maintain body weight. He has to shed extra kilos to have healthy knees.

Do light exercises: Regular exercise
can reduce some pain of the person suffering from joint pain. He should not go
for harsh exercises as it can cause more damage to the tissues and ligaments.
Brisk walking can ease mobility and reduce pain too.

Have a Nutritional diet: Consuming calcium and the right quotient of Vitamin D can help to improve the muscle strength. Thus, to maintain muscle strength, proper dietary requirements should be taken. Dairy products are the best sources of calcium, but other options are green, leafy vegetables like broccoli and kale.

Watch the Posture: Sitting, walking, standing and lying posture of an individual affects the joint health as the wrong posture will pressurize them in the wrong direction. Thus, we should maintain the right posture to prevent joint pain.

Be in movement: Anything that keeps on moving, stay active. Thus, to keep your joints healthy and active, do not sit in a single position for long. Try to change position more often to reduce joint pain.

If pain persists, see an orthopaedician
right away for treatment.
The post Easy and useful remedies for Joint Pain by Dr. Amit Saini first appeared on Jugaadin News .

There are some vital tips given by orthopedic surgeon Dr. Amit Saini to keep your joints strong and flexible during the winter season. It is essential to keep joints healthy during winters as sunlight which helps in absorption of vitamin D become restricted and also the blood flow to the peripheral areas in the body decreases. When blood supply reduces, it leads to joint stiffness and pain.

So to keep the joints healthy and strong, follow the tips given by Dr. Amit Saini (Joint replacement surgeon at Sapra Multispecialty Hospital)

1. Replenish your diet with essential vitamins

Keep your bones strong this winter by packing your diet with healthy calcium-containing foods or vitamin-like D, K and C which helps in absorption of calcium. Milk and yogurt are the natural choices, but there are lots of vegetable sources too, from leafy greens to oranges, lemon.

Vitamin D from Sun

2. Keep the joints and bones warm

It is crucial to keep the joints warm. Your muscles tense and stiffen when you feel cold and shiver, making them more susceptible to injury and general discomfort. Warm water shower and thermals will keep your joints warm, flexible and revive the arthritis pain.

3. Exercising

Frequent exercising and brisk walking are necessary for the active joints in the winter. Exercising helps in strengthening of muscles and maintaining the body weight.

4. Limit the use of sodas and tea/coffee

Caffeinated drinks and other fizzy beverages reduce calcium absorption. And calcium deficiency can cause bone problems. Therefore, apart from having calcium-rich food, one should avoid having fizzy drinks so that the body absorbs the calcium you are having.

Say no to Caffeinated Beverages

5. Right posture is Necessary

Half of the problems of joints are due to wrong posture
habits. Right sitting and standing postures are necessary to keep the joint
strong. Take care of your joints when you lift and carry heavy stuff.

Right posture

Thus follow these simple habits and keep your joints and bones warm. If pain persists and joints get stiff, ask for the help of orthopedists.

www.dramitsaini.com

The post How to keep Joints strong during winters first appeared on Jugaadin News .

In today’s fast-paced life, when people suffer from severe joint pain, their search for the best orthopedic surgeon to have successful orthopedic surgery increases. More orthopedic hospitals and Clinics like Sapra Multispecialty Hospital have applied more complex joint replacement techniques, which are less invasive. The benefit of these techniques: a shorter recovery period, provide fewer complications and better outcomes.

Dr. Amit Saini, an Orthopedic surgeon helps patients to restore mobility and reduce joint pain through total joint replacement surgery. The person who is tired of using non-surgical treatments for joint pain is suggested to look for an orthopedic surgeon. An orthopedic surgeon will be the one who will provide the best possible treatment for your joint pain.

There are some simple tips and tricks given by Dr. Amit Saini (Orthopedic Surgeon) that a patient must follow to find the best Orthopedic surgeon:

1. Consider the experience of the surgeon

It is important to know the experience of the orthopedic surgeon in carrying out a specific procedure to ensure good results. Their rate of success, How successful they are in dealing with similar cases such as your complications and how often he/she performs the surgery are some of the factors you must ask the orthopaedician.

2. Look for an Orthopaedician who is easily accessible. An orthopedic surgeon’s location should be near to your area for your convenience.

3. You must observe the doctor’s communication style by asking questions during the time of consultation. Choose an orthopedic doctor that will clearly explain the required information, treatment procedure, risks, and other relevant data and make you feel comfortable while communicating with him, or her.

4. An orthopedic surgeon credential is also important to ensure that they don’t have any malpractice issue in past. Check for the licensed and certified orthopedic surgeon.
