Lansdowne: The most peaceful Hill station in Uttrakhand

Lansdowne in Uttrakhand is a beautiful cantonment town in Garhwal district of the state which is counted among the most beautiful hill stations in India. It is a historic city established by Britishers during the colonial period. Apart from this, this place is also an important center of freedom fighters of India. Located at an elevation of 1706 meters, Lansdowne is one of the most peaceful hill destinations in India. Surrounded by pine-deodar forests, this site serves to attract tourists to a large extent.

In Uttarakhand state, Lansdowne is a tourist destination that many people are unaware of. Lansdowne is also known as the home for the Garhwal Rifle Regiment of the Indian Army. This tourist destination is named after Lord Lansdowne, the Viceroy of India. If you go to visit this fascinating city, almost all the buildings here will remind you of the colonial period surrounded by snow-capped mountains and lush green forests.

Best time to visit Lansdowne

 The weather in Lansdowne is pleasant all year round. It does not get too hot here. Between March and June, there is very pleasant weather, while between December and February it is bitterly cold.  However, during winter, snowfall occurs. The best time to visit Lansdowne is between March and November.

St Mary’s Church: As mentioned above, Lansdowne is a hill station settled by the British, during that time churches and many buildings were built. St. Mary’s Church located here is an ancient marvelous structure built during 1895. St Mary’s Church is an Anglican church located at the ‘Tip n Top’ hill point of Lansdowne. St. Mary’s Church is well-known among tourists for its beautiful walls and stained glass windows.

Darwan Singh Regimental Museum

It is a war museum located in the central part of the city. The museum is managed by the Indian Army. The Darwan Singh Museum displays memories and collections of various wars fought by the Army’s Garhwal Rifles Regiment.

Tip N Top and Snow View Point

Visit Tip N Top and Snow View Point of Lansdowne to watch snow-capped hills. One can easily see the snow-capped mountain ranges of Chaukhamba and Trishul from here. Tourists love to see the magnificent view of sunrise and sunset from here.

Tarkeshwar Mahadev Temple

Apart from the above place tourist can visit the famous Tarkeshwar Mahadev temple near Lansdowne. This temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. The temple is surrounded by mountainous vegetation. Tarkeshwar Mahadev is counted among the oldest ‘Siddha Peethas’ in the country.
