The Rishikesh–Karnaprayag Rail Project is set to improve railway connectivity in Uttarakhand’s Devbhoomi region, bringing important spiritual destinations closer and supporting tourism. According to the Ministry of Railways, the project is designed to strengthen transport access across the region while promoting sustainable development.

125-km Rail Line to Cover 5 Districts

The project spans 125 kilometres and includes 12 stations across five districts. It is also progressing through major tunnelling milestones, with 13 of the 16 main tunnels and 10 of the 12 escape tunnels reported to have achieved breakthroughs.

Focus on Sustainable Railway Development

The project also incorporates environmental measures, including planned bee-foraging floral corridors along the railway route and treated-water reuse for trackside greenery. These initiatives aim to support a greener and more sustainable railway network in the Himalayan region.

Once operational, the rail line is expected to make travel more convenient for passengers visiting Uttarakhand’s spiritual destinations and contribute to tourism in the region.
