When to do meditation?

  • It’s a myth that meditation is proficient in the morning time, yes, morning time has its own significance, but if you are a beginner then don’t bother about these things, grab a space in the corner of your house, or in your garden, sit with your eyes closed and simply try to be aware of your breath if you don’t know any other practices.
  • You can start meditation at any time of the day but it is best to start meditating in the following time
  • 20 minutes before or after sunrise 
  • 20 minutes before and after 12 o’clock 
  • 20 minutes before and after sunset
  • If we look upon the empty stomach conditions then it is recommended to do simple meditation with a gap of atleast 2.5 hours from snacks. But if you are supposed to follow any Pranayamas, well, then empty stomach condition is the best.
  • If you are a beginner, and not sure about the empty stomach rule, then the basic is – 4-hour gap after a regular meal and 2.5-hour gap after a tea or coffee with some snacks makes the empty stomach conditions in the body.

What type of meditation I can do?

As a beginner, it is important to first identify the benefits you want to reap first. The calmness of the mind and body will anyway happen, but if your goal to reap some specific benefits from the meditation then you should be clear about that.

People usually take meditation as sitting silently and doing nothing, but it won’t work like that always. There are pranayamas that are counted into the meditation process. How to practice this form of meditation?

  • Sit in a comfortable posture with your legs crossing each other. You can even choose to sit on a chair if not comfortable on the ground. Cross your feet and sit with your eyes closed and in a relaxed position.
  • Place your right hand over your left hand such that both the hands are in your lap, placed gently over each other.
  • Sit with your spine erect, you can take the support of a cushion if needed, or even place something ( a folded blanket or another cushion) under your knee if required.
  • Close your eyes and inhale, with intense consciousness of your breath. Bypass the thoughts coming in your way and simply inhale as slowly as possible for you.
  • Now the inhalation is complete, slowly, very slowly exhale your breath. As you proceed you will realize that your exhalation is more than your inhalation.
  • The only key in this breath awareness session is to keep yourself aware of the movement of your breath, closely observe the time you spend on your every breath and make it more slowly as you can.
  • Let the thoughts come and go, just keep yourself aware of the breath you are inhaling and giving back.

The sole purpose of this technique is to make you thoughtless for some time. Your body will rejuvenate itself and your mind will reach the ultimate intensity of focus yet calmness at the same time.
