Campus life has its own charm but a time comes in every graduate’s life when they face excitement and nervousness at the same time. This is the time of Placements. Now, the campus placement season is on. The location season has embarked on and discussions around jobs and therefore the future seems to be occupying most of it slow. Emotionally it is a roller-coaster. The correct approach here is to plan and prepare. Here’s how.

1. What does one want?

Think about yourself. What quite someone are you? Are you energized working with people or alone? You’ll achieve career success in an industry or function suited to your strengths and what everyone else is rooting for. Shortlist the domains, roles, businesses and after deciding, start applying for.

2. Plan it slow

Depending on your choice of career, determine which actions will maximize your chances of selection. If you’re an engineering student, in-depth knowledge of your core subjects is going to be critical. If you’ve got a summer or winter internship springing up, choose on its relevancy to the future.

3. Be yourself

The key to crack an interview is to be fair and don’t get anxious and make errors. You may end up not being yourself when you are nervous and all those hours invested in preparing yourself for the D-day may go to waste. Relax whenever you feel you are nervous or anxious and give your best shot. Always keep in mind recruiters appreciate honesty and if they like your skill set they will be able to place you in the appropriate team.

4. Know your campus

Each campus has an elaborate system of rules that dictate what you’ll be able to and can’t neutralize different situations. Are there limitations on when and the way many companies you’ll be able to apply to? Are you forced to just accept the primary offer that comes along? You will then prefer to skip applying to a less attractive firm if it’ll prevent you from trying out for your dream company.

5. Work on your communication skills

The job market mostly demands candidates who can communicate in English proficiently. A lot of candidates fail to make a mark because they don’t pay attention to enhancing their communication skills, even though they have proper skills-set. Communicate with your peers in English, read and watch English books, newspapers, movies and this way you can work on your communication skills.

  6. Build your CV

Set
aside a large chunk of your time to writing, revising and re-writing your
resume. Start immediately. Some campuses have a prescribed format. Else
research on different CVs for college students and pick a low-risk professional
format to craft your resume. Rolling out a good resume is feasible only with
multiple iterations and tones of feedback.

7. Know your company

Which companies are you interested in? What’s their selection process in terms of test, interview, case interview, conference, test, etc? What are the stages of shortlisting and the way many offers will they make? This may provide you with a thought of your chances with each company and the way much time you would like to arrange.

8. Clear the screenings

Most firms will have multiple rounds of elimination. If there’s a written or online test, put in deliberate practice by preparing with past question papers. If there’s a gaggle discussion or case study, then compile a bunch of significant friends for joint practice and feedback sessions. This is often the time to prioritize placements over grades.

9. Focus on the knowledge foundation

When
you are preparing for your interview, the most important thing is not to miss
the subject knowledge of the courses you have studied in your master’s and
graduation degree courses. Most of the candidates ignore this but if your
knowledge foundation is not strong and then all your efforts of impressing your
interviewers might go waste.

10. Ace the
interview

Begin with a listing of questions culled from the web and campus’s seniors. Write points against each then begin with mock interview practice. Don’t argue against the criticism they provide. Instead, sift out what changes you’d wish to make both in the content and delivery of your interviews.

Ask
some of your friends to place you through stress interviews.

Finally, stay grounded.

A campus selection process isn’t a true measure of your worth and you’ll find employment you deserve whether or not there are some setbacks along the way.
The post 10 Tips to Ace the Campus Placements first appeared on Jugaadin News .

As the world is completely getting digitized, the methods of job applications have changed and turned online. Now almost all corporations have replaced paper-based applications with e-mail/web/mobile applications. They encourage the applicants to file via e-mail. But applying to job through an e-mail requires some etiquette that should reflect your professionalism along with the application. Here are some of the basic tips that all applicants should remember while communicating to the organizations:

This
is the time of instant messaging, where everyone use acronym like TC, LOL, ROFL
etc. Please avoid this while writing a professional e-mail. Always use complete
sentences and words using proper grammar. Be professional in writing sentences because
hiring manager is not your relative or friend.

Completely
Avoid using emoticons as they are a sign of unprofessional and informal way of
communication.

Always have a Crispy / Appropriate subject
line of your e-mail which briefs the context of your communication. Make sure
the Subject Line is in Sync with the details of your e-mail. Without any subject
line, employer will not look at your job application and may assume it as a
spam.

Your
e-mail account name must look like professional and sounds good. If your e-mail
address is not business appropriate (example something like coolfunkydude99@gmail.com
etc.) apply for a new, free e-mail account, preferably with your name as the
account name.

Always
start the e-mail with proper salutation like Dear sir/ Dear Ma’am. If you don’t
know the person, simple write Dear Manager.

Add
your signature at the bottom of the e-mail. All signatures should include your
full name, e-mail, cell phone number or the number you answer most.

Always
attach your resume or CV to the e-mail as a PDF. Don’t use Word or other word
processing formats. This prevents any edits or alterations to your documents; also,
visually PDF has a more pleasant appearance.

Pic credit: Google

Do a thorough proofreading
several times before pressing the send button; if needed ask your friend/colleague
to have a glance at it for a quick review. Always a fresh pair of eyes review may
catch a few things.

Follow all the above simple tips and strategies while communicating through e-mails. These professional inputs shall certainly help inincreasing your professional appeal and make a great first impression. Always remember First Impression is the Best Impression.

Are you a graduate and applying for job interview? Facing the interviews but not getting any fruitful response? Reason can be that you were not able to give answers properly, not knowing which common questions to prepare before going to an interview is a major drawback in getting a job. Here we are providing a list of some basic questions that every interviewer asked to scan the interviewee. Preparing these questions will definitely help a candidate in getting the job.

Tell me something about yourself?

This question seems to be very simple but
it has a very crucial role. Candidates don’t prepare for it as they think it as
an easy one. Answer of this question will lay the foundation of the whole
interview. So, always prepare for it.

How and what you know about the company?

After asking the candidate profile, interviewer is always interested in knowing about him and his company’s profile. How much research a candidate has done on company’s site will make a great impact on the interviewer.

Why you left your previous organization?

This is the most critical question to be
answer. You have to be vigilant while answering. Don’t say anything negative
about the previous company or organization. Try to give answers that show you
left the organization for your better growth and future.

What are your strengths and weakness and
how you will use them for this job profile?

Always try to be specific and share true
strengths through examples. And for weakness, try to say those negative things
on which you are working and before joining the organization, it will convert
into your strength.

What are your salary expectations?

This is the most difficult question to answer. A candidate always got confused what to quote for salary requirements. Do research about the salaries people getting at the same position in other companies. Based on your education, skills and experience quote the amount and be flexible also.

Going for an interview is not that stressful that
talking about salary, additional benefits etc. People fear of negotiating the
salaries but it is scarier if not done. Before going for negotiations, employee
should be aware of his skills and experience worth in the market with respect
to how much job is worth of?

Salary negotiation is an integral part of any interview process and it is not completely done until you get the Offer Letter with your desired pay package.

Pic Credit: Google

Here are some expert tips on salary negotiation
techniques, what to say, how to say and what not to say during that time.

Never start the negotiation from your side. It sends a negative signal to the employer. It shows that you are much interested in the money rather than in job. And also if recruiter tries to your focus your attention on salary, shift the focus on your talents, skills and what you intend to bring to the table.

If forced to give insight about salary in number, never give any exact detail. Keep a salary range according to the job profile and skills. For this, you can research on the others what amount they are getting at the same level. Also, the best answer would be to say as per industry standards.

Never reveal your personal financial detail to the employer for getting salary hike.

Treat your negotiation as a healthy talk. Use positive phrases like’ we can look forward on this’, ‘Surely I will consider your view point’. Play it cool and try to work out a way that works for both the parties. Don’t get emotional and get rough during negotiation talks; keep it as friendly as possible.

Pic credit: Google

Show your accomplishments and achievements to the manager. Brag your true worth in such a manner that employer can’t refuse to give the amount that you have in mind. Statistics and numbers that prove how you’ve added to the revenue, savings, efficiency, and productivity of your current employer will help you to get extra perks. This is a perfect strategy.

So, to make the salary negotiation a fruitful task – always prepare for the interview in advance highlighting technical skills, accomplishments, contributions to the team in the past with quantifiable results and ultimately what you bring-in along with you to the current role.Be aware of the industry pay standards of the role and negotiate accordingly so that you don’t quote unrealistic numbers.

Many a times, we feel that we are so qualified and our experience is also good, but we don’t get a job. The reason can be the mistakes that we leave in the resume. Resume means ‘ Brief information of the job seeker’. That’s why resume is that way which facilitates reaching the goal. If your resume is impressive then you will find it very easy to get the job.

Congratulations! You’ve landed an interview. Now you will start preparing for the interview
questions that might be asked from you. But interview is not just the way to
answers the questions being asked by the interviewer. At the end, there is a
session where you can ask questions about the company, its culture, rules and
regulations and working of the organization. This session is necessary to get
an insight about the company and necessary skills required for the applied
position.

It will leave a strong impression on the interviewer and make you
best from the rest.

1) What are the daily tasks for this job?

Although you are familiarized
with the job description, but asking about day-to-day expectations for the job
can give you a better idea of job profile.

What can you tell me about the company culture?

To work happily, knowing company
culture is extremely important. If the
culture of the company doesn’t fit your needs, or you don’t feel comfortable in
the environment, you aren’t going to be happy with the job. This includes how
co—workers interact, dress code, behavioural conduct, timings etc.

What qualities does someone need to have to be successful in this role?

Asking this question allows you to see if you meet the expectations for the position. It also gives you an idea of what qualities and characteristics the company values in their team members. This will give you an idea about which traits to focus on.

What career path does someone in this role typically follow?

When you will accept the
job, you will look for long term goals with short term goals. If you know where
you’d like to be in a few years, you want to be sure the decisions you’re
making now will bring you closer to getting there.

What are the next steps for the interview process?

Each organization have
their own process of following up with candidates after the interview process. While
someone will let you know through contact, some by emails. Thus, asking this
question will help you to clear your mind and less stress on further
communication mechanism.

Thus, these can be some of the questions that you can ask to an interviewer but there are some questions too that you shouldn’t ask like about salary and other perks. Don’t ask a question that makes you look unprepared.
