SAWAN SHIVRATRI 2020: Seek Blessings from Lord Shiva

In the monsoon season, naive devotion towards Lord Shiva can be seen everywhere. Today July 19, on the occasion of Shivratri, this devotion and prayers grow many folds. Saavan Shivratri is celebrated as a day that marks the marriage between Lord Shiva and Mata Parvati. A person who remembers Bholenath/ Lord Shiva on this day, he/she gets a special result. Along with this, the blessings of Bholenath are also received.

WHY SHIVRATRI IS CELEBRATED?

 There are several stories behind the celebration of the Shivratri, the most famous is that Lord Shiva was impressed by the devotion of Goddess Parvati. As a result, Shiva fulfills her wish and marries her. Goddess Parvati, who is also known as AadhyaShakti, has done hard penance and taken 108 births to get lord Shiva as her husband. That’s why Shivratri is also considered auspicious for those girls who are unmarried and want a suitable groom, they keep fast on this day and seek blessings from Lord Shiva.

HOW SHIVRATRI IS CELEBRATED?

Over the years, this tradition has been practiced by women in India for the well-being and long life of their husbands. Every year in the month of Sawan, people brought Ganga water from Haridwar and Neelkanth to worship Lord Shiva. These people are called kavadis and the holy water they carry in pots called Kavad. This year, however, kawad yatras are canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic.
