Miss Universe 2021: India’s Harnaaz Sandhu won the crown; brings glory after 21 years

Harnaaz Sandhu of India is the new Miss Universe, India got this crown again after 21 years after Lara Dutta in 2000. Ms Sandhu represented India today in Eilat, Israel, at the 70th Miss Universe 2021 pageant. The 21-year-old from Punjab won the Miss Universe 2021 title, beating out Nadia Ferreira of Paraguay and Lalela Mswane of South Africa.

Andrea Meza, the former Miss Universe 2020 from Mexico, presented Ms Sandhu with the crown.

Only two Indian actresses Sushmita Sen in 1994 and Lara Dutta in 2000 have won the Miss Universe title before Harnaaz Sandhu.

Ms Sandhu who began her pageant career at the age of 17, had previously won Miss Diva 2021, Femina Miss India Punjab 2019, and even reached the Top 12 at Femina Miss India 2019.

Harnaaz radiated confidence and grace as she took to the runway for the swimsuit round after impressing the judges in the preliminary round. Harnaaz wowed everyone in a breathtaking maroon cap-sleeved bikini, securing her place in the top ten.

“The biggest pressure the kids of today are facing is to believe in themselves, to realise that you are unique and that’s what makes you attractive,” a composed Ms Sandhu remarked when asked what advice she would give to young women on how to deal with the challenges they experience. Stop comparing yourself to others and instead focus on the issues that are affecting the globe.”

“This is what you must comprehend. Come out and stand up for yourself because you are the boss of your own life and the voice of your own.

Ms Sandhu thanked everyone via Instagram for her beautiful journey at Miss Universe 2021.
