Krafton announced the Battleground Mobile India Open Challenge — or BMOC — as the first BGMI competition for 2022 on Friday. Registration for the 2022 BMOC will commence on March 14. Iin order to participate in the open challenge, players must meet specific prerequisites. The Battlegrounds Mobile India Pro Series will be held for the top 32 teams (BMPS). According to Krafton, the winner of the BMPS grand finals would receive Rs. 75 lakh.
The BMOC series will be Krafton’s first esports event in 2022, and the publisher has also announced four esports competitions in India in 2022, totalling Rs. 6 crores as prize money. Seasons 1 and 2 of the BMPS will each feature a prize pool of Rs. 2 crores, and the tournaments will begin with the BMOC, which is accessible to all eligible users. Last year, Krafton vowed to invest $100 million (approximately Rs. 763 crores) in India to strengthen the country’s gaming, esports, entertainment, and IT industries.
Gamers who have earned level 25 on their Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI) profile with Tier Platinum 5 will be able to register for BMOC on the company’s website. From March 14 to March 27, participants can register for the event, which will be followed by in-game qualifiers. According to Krafton, 512 teams will be chosen to compete in the first round of the BMOC, with 256 moving on to Round 2. In the meanwhile, only 64 teams will advance to Round 3, with the number dropping to 32 for Round 4. These teams will compete against 32 invited teams, with only 32 teams advancing to the BMPS Season 1 competition.
According to Krafton, the 32 teams that qualify for BMPS Season 1 will compete in a Round Robin format, with 16 teams advancing to the BMPS finals. The winning team would receive a prize of Rs. 75 lakh. Both the BMOC and BMPS series will be online-only, with Krafton confirming that no offline LAN finals will be held for these competitions.
