Buddha Purnima is the Buddhist festival celebrated on the full moon day that comes in Vaishakh month.In 2023, Buddha Purnima is on 5 May, 2023.

It is believed that Lord Buddha was born on this day. Gautam Buddha’s childhood name was Siddharth. Predictions were made before the birth of Gautam Buddh that he would be a great monk. That’s why, Gautam Buddh was kept isolated from the outside world in the palace only. 

After the age of 29, Gautam Buddh decided to see the world more. On the first visit, he saw an old man, a Dead body and a sick man. All these three things disturbed him Gautam Buddh thought that life is a temporary phase. After this, he saw a monk whose face was shining brightly. 

This incident  changed Gautam Buddh to leave the palace and go to the forest and do penance. At the age of 35, Gautam Buddha attained enlightenment under the Bodhi tree at Bodh Gaya.

 On the Buddh Purnima day, devotees go to the temple of Lord Buddha to offer fruits, candles and honey while singing hymns. Devotees also release the insects, birds  and animals for the symbol of liberalization.
