Govt extended Deadline for Linking PAN Card and Aadhaar to June 30

According to the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT), the deadline for linking a PAN (Permanent Account Number) with an Aadhaar card has been extended to June 30, 2023. March 31, 2023, was the previous deadline.

If PAN is not linked with Aadhaar by March 31, 2023, the PAN number will become inoperative. People can link PAN-Aadhaar before the deadline by paying Rs 1,000  The IT department has mandated PAN-Aadhaar connection unless exempted in certain circumstances.

Linking an Aadhaar Card and a PAN Card is required as it allows the government to keep track of taxable financial activities, which can then be identified. It assists in the prevention of tax evasion. Furthermore, linking the Aadhaar card and PAN card prevents an individual from having several PAN cards in order to avoid tax payments.

Also, Congress MP Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury has requested the Prime Minister to extend the deadline for linking PAN cards with Aadhaar cards for the next six months and make the process free of cost.
