Popular social media platform “Facebook” has announced a very special feature called “Messenger Rooms” that can be used for video conferencing in the lockdown period. Up to 50 people can connect on a video call through this feature at one time and there is no limit on-call time. Facebook rolled out this to facilitate people to connect with their friends, family, and teacher during the lockdown period. This feature can be a good rival of the “Zoom Video Communication App”.

With this new messenger rooms feature, users will be able to create chat rooms and a lot of people will be able to be a part of video chatting together. Facebook says that messenger rooms are created in Facebook Messenger itself and can be shared in news feeds or different groups and events. After creating a messenger room, up to 50 users will be able to take part in a video chat in one room. The special thing about this feature is that people who are not Facebook users will also be able to join video chat rooms.

The company says that there is no limit to how long a chat room will remain open. Facebook also said that a user who is hosting the messenger room will have all the controls and will be able to remove people from the call and lock a room if he/she doesn’t want anyone else to enter.

Messenger Rooms initially rolled out in some countries this week for a test run and will expand globally in the coming weeks, said in an official blog published by Facebook. Facebook also adds in the blog that they are also expanding the Whatsapp group call limit. Now users will soon be able to have group voice and video calls with up to eight people on WhatsApp. These calls are secured with end-to-end encryption so no one else can view or listen to your private conversation, not even WhatsApp.
