Mithali Raj, India’s women’s captain, celebrated another significant milestone in her distinguished career during the first One-Day International against Australia on Tuesday. While batting at Harrup Park in Mackay, she scored 20,000 international runs.

Mithali scored 61 runs off 107 deliveries to help the visitors reach 225/8 in the stipulated fifty overs. The Indian batswoman is already the leading scorer in women’s international cricket.

Despite starting strongly, India’s women’s batting squad struggled against Australia’s attack. Shafali Verma and Smriti Mandhana got the team off to a flying start, scoring 31 runs in the first four overs. However, Australia responded quickly, dismissing both Shafali (8) and Mandhana (16) in the sixth over, reducing India to 38/2.

After that, Yastika and Mithali got up at the crease and put on 77 runs for the third wicket, but India lost Bhatia (35) to Brown in the 26th over, just when they were gaining the upper hand. India was reduced to 129/4 in the 31st over when Deepti Sharma (9) failed to make an impact with the bat, handing Brown her fourth wicket.

Mithali was stumped by Molineux, which brought Richa Ghosh and Pooja Vastrakar to the crease. The lower-order was unable to make a significant contribution, and India was forced to settle for a score of 225. Richa Ghosh and Jhulan Goswami each had cameos of 32 and 20 runs in the final overs.
