Commerce stream after 10th : Subjects, Career and all about this stream

After completing class 10th, there are many doors open to students in terms of subjects, careers etc.  Commerce is one of them. It is the most popular option students opt to make their career in. Commerce is basically exchange of goods or commodities , especially on a large scale. It teaches you about different industrial things like trading, business activities, stocks etc. Choose this subject if you have an affinity for numbers, economy, and business. Today we’ll talk about its extensive areas, what subjects you have to study, what career paths it avails to you and much more:-

Subjects in Commerce :-

1).English :-

It’s one of the official languages of India, and also most common used language in the world.It is an unavoidable subject studied at Class 11-12 level no matter what’s your stream is.English is a common language medium used in offices, colleges and online, which is the reason a certain level of adaptation is always helpful.At 11-12 level, the subject usually focuses on reading, writing, grammar, and listening/speaking skills in English.

2).Mathematics:-

Mathematics is the subject which is all about calculation of different terms around you related to business, space, fundamental things you daily appoints with etc. It is all around us in some form including engineering, architecture, art, money and even in sports.

3).  Business studies:-

 A ‘theory’ considered subjects but it teaches you many things related to your day to day life. It introduces  you to the concepts of marketing, finance, organizational behavior and business world. Henceforth to your high degree courses – to consulting or investment banking – you’ll fundamentally learn more deeper about it.

4). Accounting:-

It includes basic concepts like  journal, posting, bank reconciliation, accounting for partnerships, nonprofits and companies etc. Nowadays most of this stuff can be done on electronic systems.

5). Economics:-

It basically  teaches you why the world works in a certain way . You’ll learn about different concepts like what is demand, supply, their interplay, the business systems, consumer behavior, production concepts, cost concepts and everything in between. You’ll also learn about concepts of growth, development, poverty, inequality and governance. 

Career in Commerce :-

There are many options you can opt after completing your 12th class in Commerce stream:-

 1). CA ( Chartered accountant):-

It is a Chartered Accountancy course. It is one of the toughest and highest level post graduation accountancy courses. There isn’t any specific Institute for this course, ICAI( institute of chartered accountant of India) ,a government organization offers  this course.You have to register yourself as a student with ICAI , only then you can pursue this course. CA can do many work in the field of accountancy, auditing, taxation, Information Technology, merger and acquisition, credit analyst, governance, etc. 

2). CS :-

Company secretary

You can also become Company Secretary. For this you have to clear three levels of CS course and the regarding exams. It includes three stages of study- Foundation program, Executive program, and Professional program. After the second stage you also have to pursue practical training. If you are graduated you can enter directly to the executive program and join the professional program and practical training.The course of CS is an 8 month course. After completing it you  can apply for the Executive program and if you qualify  the executive program you’ll be eligible for the professional programme. After concluding  the professional program in the CS, the candidates will become the Associate Member of ICSI.

3). CFA 

CFA stands for chartered financial analyst.

It is a certification course which focuses on finance. It is a course by CFA INSTITUTE, USA.If you have an interest in Finance and want to get a certificate course so as to advance in this particular career you can pursue this. It deals with various aspects of finance where you learn things like what is a portfolio,how to construct and diversify a  portfolio, quants, equities and their risk,return and pricing etc. Major Investment Banking companies are Goldman Sachs, JP morgan chase, McKinsey, Meyril Lynch, etc.

About the course:

It has 3 levels: 

Level 1, Level 2 and Level 3.

Level 1 exams are held twice a year (june and december) where  Level 2 and Level 3 exams are held once a year (only in June).

4). Cost Accountant

It is the systematic procedure of learning the cost of product being manufactured & services being returned.Cost accounting is the process of accounting in which we record, examine, summarize, and study the company’s cost spent on any process, service, product or anything else in the organization. It provides analysis & classification of expenditure and also helps to comprehend the true cost of raw material that constitute total cost of product so as to control and reduce its cost.No-one should join this course unless you have deep knowledge and interest in numerical and logical aptitude. If you love numbers or taxation then only opt this. You should have Basic understanding of hands-on Fin Accounts (Tally), MS Excel and your extended readiness to work in MFG locations is mandatory.

5).MBA or Master of Business Administrations:

You can also go into the corporate field . For that you can do an MBA after your graduation . After that  you can have a master degree in business administration. It can get you brilliant job opportunities. But doing it  will be worth it if you do them from good colleges that can get you a high salary package .

7). Stock Broker

A stock broker is a professional who accomplishes buy and sell orders for stocks and other securities through a stock market for a fee or commission . They  are registered with the stock exchange and hold a license.They provide the portal to investors for stock exchanges. So if you are interested in things like trading etc. You can pursue this career option.

8). Mergers and acquisitions

Mergers and acquisitions is one of the  important aspects of the corporate finance world. 

Mergers is the alliance of two companies to form one, while

 Acquisitions is  about taking over one company one company by another. Mergers and acquisitions used to describe the fortification of companies, various types of financial transaction, tender  which offers purchases of assets and management procurement. M&A is a growth strategy often used by corporations  to rapidly  increase its size, service area,customer base, and resources.M&A bankers run strategies through structural change. 9). Financial analyst
