As the day has come when the world is suffering from the crisis of COVID-19, it is the families who bear the brunt of the crisis, shielding their members from damage, caring for out-of-school children and, at the same time, continuing their work responsibilities.

History of World Family Day

The year 1994 was declared International Family Year or Global Family Day by the United States of America. International Family Day is celebrated on 15 May every year to convey the importance of family among people all over the world. Since the year 1995, this trend continues every year. To explain the importance of family, various programs are organized on May 15 across the world. The emblem chosen for this day has a heart and house in the middle of a green circle. It is clear from this that the center of any society is the family. The family brings comfort to people of all ages.

Purpose of International Family Day

The purpose of celebrating ‘International Family Day’ is to raise awareness on such issues that are related to the family. On this day, people pledge to adopt healthy and good habits for their families. There are two types of families – single-family and a joint family. In a single-family, parents and children live, while in the joint family, parents and children live together with grandparents and other family members such as uncle-aunt, aunt, etc.
