Education in Indonesia is of quite high importance and value. It is mandatory for a person to undergo at least 12 years of education which will include 6 years of elementary education. The Indonesian government allows the in-formal method of education to go with the formal method of education. Education in Indonesia is considered a way to build a personality and bring out the best potential from each and every human being. The education system in Indonesia is run mainly by the ministry of education but around 15% is controlled by the Ministry of Religious affairs. There is a number of colleges and university in Indonesia that offer various courses in the country.
Here we take a look at some of the best-known colleges of Indonesia. One thing to note is the colleges are divided into groups because every college is located on one island or the other.
1. University Of Indonesia
This is the oldest university in Indonesia and is also one of the highest-ranked universities in the world university ranking. The university was established in the year 1849 and was then remodeled in the year 2007. The college has 12 faculties and has over 50 master programs and doctorate programs to go with the under-graduate programs as well. The university has one of the biggest libraries in Asia with over 1.5 million books in the library. Technical programs like nursing, medicine, and dentistry are also available in the university.
2. Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB)
This is one of the earliest engineering colleges in Indonesia to be set up in the country as early in 1959. This is an autonomous institution that was previously under public or government jurisdiction but later got the power of an autonomous university. The campus is one of the biggest and the college offers all the main branches of engineering like computer science, electrical, electronics, and communication. Mechanical Engineering is one of the biggest departments of the college and ranks among one of the best in Asia as well. There is also acceptance of a large number of foreign students.
3. Gadjah Mada University
This is a public university that is located in Yogyakarta. Established in the year 1949, this university has over 60 undergraduate programs, 20 diploma study programs, and the rest master and doctoral programs. This university has one of the highest acceptance ratios of foreign students in the country and thus has a prestigious name. This is the largest higher institutional body in the whole of Indonesia.
4. Bogor Agricultural university
This is one of the biggest research and educational institutes in terms of agricultural study along with the animal, forestry, fisheries. The college has under-graduate courses in the aforementioned subjects and also offers master programs if there is a good GPA or grades in a particular subject. A doctorate degree is also available but a separate examination has to be given and also cleared well to have a chance to earn a doctorate degree. The college has a very reputed teaching facility and a modern way of teaching.
5. Airlangaa University
This university in Indonesia was set-up in the year 1954. The primary objective was to give a master’s degree in the fields of basic medical science and dentistry and in the field of law. The university also got acceptance for a doctoral degrees in the year 1959. Currently, there are 18 courses that offer master’s degree in this University.
6. University of Padjadjaran
The University of Indonesia was established in the year 1957. The university is located in Bandung which is in West Java. Just like the previous one the university was set up to offer a master’s degree in only 4 specialized courses that were law, mathematics, science, and medicine. But after its good results and more influx of students over the past few years, the university got the license to introduce more subjects in its curriculum.
7. Diponegoro University
This university is solely based for post-graduate programs in the country. The university in Indonesia has over 25 programs in the masters level that are spread over in the fields of law, sciences, engineering and technology, medicine and economics. The university also has post-doctoral programs in a few of the departments. There are a number of foreign students in the university and a lot of visiting professors are invited to give lectures in this university.
8. Bina Nusantara University(BINAS)
This is a private university in Indonesia that was started in the year 1974. This university offers courses in under-graduate and post-graduate levels. The university is known for having dual-degree courses that gives both the under graduate and post-graduate degree combined. Computer science and applications is one of the main courses of the university along with courses in science, information technology and other departments. Foreign Students are also recruited by this university.
9. University of Brawijaya
This university is located in Java and as set-up in the year 1963. The university has 11 faculties and has a large campus. The teaching quality is quite nice here and modern methods of teaching are followed here for better learning of the students. This is because the university has the motto of to give the country skilled and highly qualified professional. All the basic courses in sciences, arts, social sciences, business is being studied here.
