India became an emerging nuclear power in 1998, the reason behind it, was the nuclear test on 11 May 1998. After achieving this huge success, the immediate Prime Minister of India announced to celebrate May 11, as National Technology Day in the year 1999. Since India conducted its most powerful nuclear test on May 11, that is why we celebrate National Technology Day on May 11 every year to remember this day. Every year this day is celebrated with different themes but this year there is no theme set for National Technology Day but the theme of National science day 2019 was “Women in Science.”

India’s most powerful and successful nuclear test was carried out in 1998 and the great scientist Abdul Kalam was behind the whole test. The credit for handing over this work to Abdul Kalam goes to former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. All nuclear tests were successfully tested under the excellent guidance of former president Abdul Kalam. After this test, the central government had declared this achievement as India’s biggest achievement.

National Technology day history

Before demonstrating its nuclear power, India was considered a very weak country. After some time, the real twist in thinking of these countries came when India described itself as the sixth powerful country having the power to make nuclear weapons.

An earthquake of up to 5.3 reactor scale was recorded in the surrounding areas on 11 May 1998 in India when the Atomic Research Department tested three atomic bombs at Pokhran. This test was named “Shakti” by the Research Department of India. Two days later, on 13 May 1998, two more nuclear bombs were tested. On the same day, the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) carried out the last Trishul missile test-fire. 11th May also marks the achievement in the flight of India’s first Indigenous aircraft- Hansa-3, which was flown in Bengaluru when the nuclear tests were being organized in Rajasthan.
