#DigitalAirStrike: 59 Chinese Apps Banned by India

The Ministry of Electronics and IT has banned 59 Chinese-owned applications, including ShareIt, TikTok, UC Browser, BeautyPlus, WeChat, Baidu Map, and Mi Video Call. The Ministry shared the information on twitter also:

The ministry has asked phone companies to block these Chinese applications. The move within the backdrop of a current stand-off along the Line of Actual Control in Ladakh with Chinese troops. Criticism and backlash from Indian Citizens against Chinese applications and products have been ongoing. Indian intelligence agencies had been pushing for restrictions on mobile applications on grounds that the apps were designed to extract data and are used to invade the privacy of citizens.

The Ministry of IT has received several reports about the misuse of some mobile apps available on Andriod and iOS platforms for swiping and secretly transmitting users data.
