World Refugee Day: Everyone can make a difference

To honor refugees around the globe, World Refugee Day is celebrated every year on June 20. It is an international day proclaimed by the United Nations.

Refugees are the people who are forced to displace their home country to escape natural calamity, conflict, or war. World refugee day celebrates the strength and courage of these people and helps them to mobilize resources so that refugees not only survive but thrive also.

When did World Refugee Started?

World Refugee Day was held globally for the first time on June 20, 2001, commemorating the 50th anniversary of the 1951 Convention relating to the Status of Refugees. It was originally known as Africa Refugee Day, before the United Nations General Assembly officially designated it as an international day in December 2000.

World Refugee Day Theme 2020

The theme for World Refugee Day 2020 is “Every action counts “which desperately believes that to make this world equal for all, we have to fight more. We have to consider that everyone can contribute and make a difference in creating a more just, inclusive, and equal world.  The theme is based on recent anti-racism protests held in the world.
