Thalaiva (Rajnikanth) to be conferred with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award 2019, announced Union Minister Prakash Javadekar

Union minister Prakash Javadekar announced on Twitter on Thursday that Actor Rajinikanth will receive the 51st Dadasaheb Phalke Award, the highest award in Indian cinema. Dadasaheb Phalke Award is named after the father of Indian cinema, Dhundiraj Govind Phalke.

While announcing the prize, Prakash Javadekar wrote, “Happy to announce #Dadasaheb Phalke award for 2019 to one of the greatest actors in history of Indian cinema Rajnikant ji His contribution as actor, producer, and screenwriter has been iconic I thank Jury@ashabhosle@SubhashGhai1@Mohanlal@Shankar_Live#BiswajeetChatterjee

Every year, a great personality is honored for their “outstanding contribution to the growth and development of Indian cinema” and is selected by a committee consisting of eminent personalities from the Indian film industry. This year selection has been made by a jury comprising Asha Bhonsle, Mohanlal, Biswajit Chatterjee, Shankar Mahadevan, and Subhash Ghai. The award comprises a Swarna Kamal (Golden Lotus), a shawl, and a cash prize of ₹1,000,000 (US$14,000).

The great film personality Rajnikanth has also honored with the Padma Bhushan in 2000 and the Padma Vibhushan in 2016. South Indian Actor Rajinikanth, has completed 45 years in the film industry in August last year.

PM Narendra Modi also congratulated Rajnikanth on getting Dada Saheb Phalke Award via tweet,” Popular across generations, a body of work few can boast of, diverse roles and an endearing personality…that’s Shri @rajinikanth Ji for you.
