July 24 marks the Income-tax day celebration

The Income Tax Department has been in India for 159 years and today the Income Tax Department is celebrating Income Tax Day. The Income Tax Day commemorating was started on July 24, 2010. It was on 24th July 1860 that Income Tax was introduced for the first time in India by Sir James Wilson to compensate for the losses incurred by the British regime during the first war of independence against British Rule. The year 2010 was the 150th year of the establishment of the Income Tax Department. The job of the Income Tax Department is to work as a bridge between the public and the government.

Today is the 159th Income Tax Day or Aaykar Diwas, and on this occasion, the CBDT will launch a country-wide taxpayer e-assistance campaign on the occasion of 159th Income Tax Day on Wednesday.
