India win Men’s Junior Asia Cup by 2-1 against Pakistan in Salalah

The Indian Junior Men’s Hockey Team has participated in the Men’s Junior Asia Cup 2023 in Salalah, Oman, started on May 23rd and ended on June 1st. The tournament is a great platform for young players in Asia to display their skills, and the top three finishers will qualify for the FIH Junior Hockey Men’s World Cup 2023 to be held in Malaysia in December this year. The Indian team has performed well in the tournament, winning their first two matches against Chinese Taipei and Japan.

On May 31st, they won a resounding 17-0 victory over Thailand, advancing to the semi-finals of the tournament to face Korea. The Indian team has already qualified for the FIH Junior Hockey Men’s World Cup 2023, which will be held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, from December 5 to 16, 2023.

The Indian Junior Men’s Hockey Team won the Men’s Junior Asia Cup 2023 in Salalah, Oman on Thursday night, beating Pakistan 2-1 in a thrilling final match. The early goals by Angad Bir Singh (13′) and Araijeet Singh Hundal (20′) ensured India remained in command of the game while some outstanding saves by goalkeeper Shashikumar MohithHonnenahalli kept India in the lead throughout the match. With this victory, India created a new record of winning the maximum titles at the Men’s Junior Asia Cup. The team had previously won the title in 2004, 2008, and 2015, while Pakistan won the tournament in 1988. 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated the team for their victory in a tweet, saying “Heartiest congratulations to our Junior Men’s Hockey Team for their splendid victory at the Men’s Junior Asia Cup. Their triumph reflects the burgeoning talent and determination that our youth hold. They have made India very proud”The Prime Minister also commended the team for their performance, saying that they have done India great honor.
