E-commerce major giant Flipkart on Thursday announced the launch of Flipkart wholesale and acquisition Walmart India with 100% interest. Flipkart Wholesale is a new digital marketplace that focuses on the business-to-business segment in India. The operation of Flipkart wholesale will be launched in August, will pilot services for the fashion and grocery segment. The Flipkart wholesale will be headed by Adarsh Menon, the Flipkart veteran.

Flipkart shared the news on twitter:

This acquisition of the B2B segment will help Flipkart to expand its footprint in the grocery and food segment and strengthen its supply chain.

In 2018, Walmart Inc had invested USD 16 billion for acquiring a 77 percent stake in the Flipkart group. Flipkart said this will enable the transformation of the Kirana retail ecosystem in the country by leveraging locally developed technology and help growth for kiranas and MSMEs. Flipkartā€™s new wholesale online business can serve the largely unorganized Kirana segment and smaller shops can order goods directly through this platform. Flipkart wholesale businesses will also benefit Kiranas and MSMEs from access to easy credit options, broader reach across the country, new product development, and cost-effective distribution.
