Coronavirus Lockdown: MHA Prohibits e-commerce from supplying non-essential items

The Ministry of Home Affairs on Sunday prohibited e-commerce companies like Amazon and Flipkart from supplying non-essential items during the COVID-19 lockdown period. Earlier on 16 April government has allowed e-commerce companies to supply non-essential goods from April 20.

In today’s statement, the Ministry of Home Affairs also said that vehicles used by e-commerce operators should be allowed to ply with necessary permissions.

The government has made ensured that during the lockdown period daily necessities like milk, vegetables and pulses and wheat continue to reach people who are keeping themselves confined to their homes. Special efforts have been made on doorstep delivery in many parts of the country.

But today the ministry said that the supply of non-essential goods which does not come in the daily needs category will be prohibited.
