Every year on March 13, the National Jewel day is celebrated. The national Jewel Day is meant to recognize the jeweler’s work or the day may be observed as to give and take jewelry to your loved ones. Jewels may be termed as precious stones having luster used in making jewelry. They need extra care if you don’t want to dull their luster and brightness.

On National Jewel Day, follow 5 tips that can help in maintaining the brightness of your ornaments for lifelong.

1. Remove your jewelry when working with chemicals, while swimming, cleaning and playing any game. Also, remove the jewelry while shower and prevent contact with chlorine bleach.

2. While occasional hand and body lotion contact do not damage most jewelry. It’s best to put lotion on your hands or body after taking off your jewelry at night.

3. Always store your expensive gems carefully to reduce their tangles and breaking down. The best way to solve the tangle problem is to store your jewelry in such a way that they don’t touch one another. Use separate cloth kits for storing valuable items, silver pieces get tarnish easily thus use tarnish-resistant kits for them

4. Clean your diamonds and gold jewelry in a bowl of warm water with mild detergent. Use a soft brush to scrub the dust from ornaments. Then rinse and dry with a soft cloth.

5. Your invaluable jewelry needs to be re-plated from time to time to keep it bright and shiny. The polishing of these stones tends to wear off because of the friction of daily chores.
