International Day of Happiness day 2020: Happiness for All, together

Being happy is a fundamental right of every Human being and to mark the importance of Happiness in Human life, the United Nations observed International Happiness Day on 20th March every year.

International day of happiness: History

The International day of happiness concept was given by Jayme lllien, CEO of United nations New World in the year 2006. He believed that every nation, society and human being craves freedom, wellbeing, and happiness. He also introduced a new economic model, “happytalism” which entitles to work on the theory of a balanced approach to economic growth that promotes the happiness and well-being of all people. In 2012, the first conference on happiness was conducted by the UN and it was declared that March 20 will be observed as International Day of Happiness. The reason behind choosing March 20 was the March equinox, a universal phenomenon simultaneously felt by all of mankind.

This year International Day of Happiness 2020 focuses on ‘Happiness for all, Together

Happiness for all together means to focus on common factors that bring happiness rather than on what divides us. Our society is composed of different people having different backgrounds and thinking pattern generates chaos between them. The day brings an opportunity to learn about different cultures and communities so as to bring happiness for all.

UNIDOHappiness gave ten steps to global happiness so that any individual, organization, or country can follow and celebrate the International Day of Happiness. There are ten steps to Global happiness

1. Tell Everyone

Tell everyone means to spread awareness about the international day of happiness. As you wish “happy birthday” to someone, in the same way, with an international day of happiness to every family member, friend, professional colleagues, and even strangers.

2. Do what makes you happy

The second step emphasizes doing things that can make you and others happy. Happiness is contagious and it spreads from one person to another. So always try to do things that bring happiness for you.

3. Give and spread happiness to others

The third step emphasizes on giving and spreading happiness to others to increase the level of happiness in both the perpetrator and the beneficiary.

4. Celebrate a happiness month event

Participate in an international day of happiness celebration that is happening around the world to promote initiatives of people, organizations, and nations to raise the level of global happiness.

5. Share happiness on social media

To increase awareness of happiness, share topics and articles related to happiness on social media to raise awareness that happiness is communicable. It spreads from one person to another person.

6. Promote the UN ‘Happiness resolutions’

The two UN happiness resolution is

 UN 65 309: Happiness toward a Holistic approach to development

UN 66 281: International Day of Happiness

The purpose of these two resolutions is to raise awareness on happiness as a fundamental human right and to achieve the happiness, well-being, and freedom of all life on earth.

7. Read and share the world happiness reports

To raise awareness about international day of happiness read and share world happiness reports to encourage people, organizations and nations to celebrate the international day of happiness. These reports include research about what leads to happy people, nation and society.

8. Advance the UN Global Goals

The United Nations has set 17 goals and 169 targets by 2030, to achieve the happiness, wellbeing, and freedom of all life on earth by 2050.

9. Become a global partner and ambassador

Get a badge Of UNIDO Happiness by becoming a global partner or ambassador of International day of happiness and promote happiness levels as an individual, community and globally.

10. Adopt and spread happytalism

Happytalism a new economic model that places happiness, wellbeing, and freedom as the center of economic development.
