Nepal is a place that is known for its mesmerizing beauty. The education system in Nepal was quite traditional and new methods of teaching only became a part of the system after the turn of the century. The old traditional way of imparting education in Nepal was with gurukul and by the method of homeschooling. This was later changed with the modern way of education that is of schools and colleges. Nepal follows the Indian model of education that is schooling till 10+2 followed by undergraduate and postgraduate degree courses. Nepal education system has a mix of local as well as international students. The literacy rate has gradually taken a rise in Nepal with both men and women going for higher education in the country.
Here we look at some of the Best Institutes/ colleges in Nepal that offer various courses.
1. St. Xavier’s College, Maithaghar
This is one of the most prestigious colleges in Nepal. The college offers +2 courses that are the higher secondary courses as well as a bachelor’s degree in science, humanities, commerce, and business. The college also offers master’s degree programs. The college was set up in the year 1988 and is run by the Society of Jesus. The college has a separate entrance test for its admission procedure followed by the interview round.
2. The British College
This is an independent college in Nepal that was set up in the year 2012 to allow the students to study the courses that were offered in reputed British colleges and Universities. This college has direct ties with the University of West England and Leeds bracket university and has a lot of visiting professors from these colleges. The college offers courses in the Business study and in Information technology apart from the normal accredited English courses that most of the British colleges offer.
3. College of Applied Food and Technology
The college is located in the capital city Kathmandu of Nepal and is the first private college in Nepal to offer courses in food technology. It was started by a group of scientists to impart more knowledge about food technology and their importance. The college also is the first and only one to have a dairy technology course. It aims to improve the food and dairy sector of Nepal.
4. Nepal Academy of Science and Technology
This is an autonomous college established in 1982 to promote science and technology and its uses in Nepal. Nepal Academy of Science and technology is one of the biggest research institutes in Nepal and has been recognized by the government of Nepal. The college has a number of laboratories like the Molecular Biology laboratory, physical science laboratory, the environmental science lab, and many more which has brought in a lot of research students in the country.
5. B.P Koirala Institute of Health sciences
This is an autonomous health institute that was started in the year 1993 and has 4 colleges under this institute. It is one of the most important colleges in terms of medical education and is one of the best in Nepal. The colleges that come under this institute are Medicine, dentistry, nursing, and Public health. The MBBS program and post-graduate programs are also available in this institute. B.P. Koirala Institute of Health Services college is also the leading hospital in Nepal.
6. Institute of Medicine, Nepal
This is one of the biggest institutes of medical sciences in Nepal and also one of the oldest being established in the year 1972. The college has 12 campuses for medical study spread all over the country. This is the only institute that has an optometry course in the whole of Nepal. The teaching of nursing as well as the old Ayurveda methods are also being taught here. The college also gets a lot of its students from neighboring countries and has a lot of visiting facilities.
7. Kathmandu University
This is the third oldest and the only government-funded university in the whole of Nepal. The ownership is private but the government funds the proceedings. The university was established in the year 1991 and offers undergraduate as well as post-graduate courses to the students. The university also has engineering, medical as well as law schools under its jurisdictions and is one of the biggest Universities in Nepal.
8. Kathmandu Medical College
This is a private medical college and hospital in the city of Kathmandu. It was built in the year 1997 and offers courses like MBBS, BDS(Dental), nursing, and post-graduation courses. The college is affiliated to Kathmandu University and is recognized by WHO as an electronic format school. This place is also a teaching hospital and is recognized by most of the Medical Boards in the world along with India.
9. Nepal engineering College
This is the first private engineering college in Nepal and is a non-profit organization. The college was set-up in the year 1994 and offer along with the major undergraduate and post-graduate courses in engineering. The college also has a Master’s in science and Bachelor in architecture in its degree courses. It has the highest number of engineering students in Nepal and is one of the biggest engineering colleges in the country.
10. Pulchowk Engineering College/campus
The college is located in Kathmandu and is one of the five colleges that constitute the Institute of engineering in Nepal. It is not only one of the best colleges in Nepal but also in the whole of Asia. The colleges offer bachelor’s degrees, master’s degrees as well as doctoral degrees.
