The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has opened registrations for the Indian Economic Service (IES) and Indian Statistical Service (ISS) Examination 2025. Interested candidates can apply online through the official UPSC website until March 4, 2025. The application correction window will be available from March 5 to March 11, 2025.

Eligibility Criteria

Age Limit:

Candidates must be between 21 and 30 as of August 1, 2025. Applicants should be born between August 2, 1995, and August 1, 2004.

Educational Qualifications:

  • IES: Postgraduate degree in Economics, Applied Economics, Business Economics, or Econometrics from a recognised university.
  • ISS: Bachelor’s degree in Statistics, Mathematical Statistics, or Applied Statistics, or a master’s degree in any of these subjects from a recognized university.

  1. Visit the official UPSC website.
  2. Complete the One-Time Registration (OTR) process (mandatory for new applicants).
  3. Log in to your account and fill out the online application form.
  4. Upload the required documents.
  5. Submit the form before the deadline.

Exam Pattern

The selection process consists of:

  • Part I: Written examination (1,000 marks)
  • Part II: Viva voce (200 marks)

  • Statistics-I & II: Objective-type with 80 questions (200 marks each, 2-hour duration).

  • General English and General Studies papers are common for both exams.

There is a negative marking for incorrect answers in objective-type papers.

Important Guidelines for UPSC IES/ISS Exam 2025

  • Use a black ballpoint pen for OMR sheets; pencils and other colors are not allowed.
  • Ensure correct entry of roll number and test booklet series code to avoid rejection.
  • Reach the exam center at least 30 minutes before the exam begins; late entry is prohibited.
