Stage Set for ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 Opener: Teams Ready for Battle

The Women’s World Cup returns to India as India and Sri Lanka co-host the 2025 edition — a golden opportunity for both teams to end their long wait for an ICC trophy. India will take on Sri Lanka in the opening match at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium, Guwahati, on Tuesday (30 September 2025). Harmanpreet Kaur will lead India for the first time in an ODI World Cup, with vice-captain Smriti Mandhana as her deputy. Chamari Athapaththu will captain Sri Lanka. The match starts at 3:00 PM local time.

India: Harmanpreet Kaur (capt), Smriti Mandhana (vc), Pratika Rawal, Harleen Deol, Jemimah Rodrigues, Richa Ghosh, Deepti Sharma, Amanjot Kaur, Radha Yadav, Kranti Gaud, Renuka Singh, Arundhati Reddy, Sneh Rana, N. Shree Charani, Uma Chetri.

Sri Lanka: Chamari Athapaththu (capt), Hasini Perera, Vishmi Gunarathne, Harshitha Samarawickrama, Kaveesha Dilhari, Nilakshika Silva, Anushka Sanjeewani, Imesha Dulani, Dewmi Vihanga, Piumi Wathsala, Inoka Ranaweera, Sugandika Dasanayaka, Udeshika Prabodani, Malki Madara, Achini Kulasuriya.

A total of eight teams are participating in this World Cup: Pakistan, Sri Lanka, India, Australia, England, Bangladesh, New Zealand and South Africa. Five venues have been selected — Guwahati, Indore, Colombo, Visakhapatnam and Navi Mumbai. All Pakistan matches have been shifted to Colombo following recent issues and an agreement between the BCCI and PCB. India will face arch-rivals Pakistan on Sunday (5 October 2025).
