Ministry of Information & Broadcasting Completes Swachhata Hi Seva 2026 Campaign

The Ministry of Information & Broadcasting has successfully completed the “Swachhata Hi Seva (SHS) 2026 Campaign”, held from September 17 to October 2, 2026. The campaign concluded on Swachh Bharat Diwas and was conducted under the theme ‘Swachhata Mein Sabki Bhagidari; Swachh Bharat, Viksit Bharat’.
The Ministry, along with its media units and field offices, organised “4,710 activities across the country”, against a target of 2,943. This represents “160% of the target”, with “74,483 people” participating in the campaign activities.
Cleanliness Activities and Public Participation
The campaign focused on different aspects of cleanliness and public participation. Under the ‘Transformation of Cleanliness Target Units (CTUs) & Clean Public Places’ initiative, difficult and heavily used public areas were identified, mapped and cleaned within a set timeframe. A total of 2,864 CTUs were transformed, and public places were cleaned.
The campaign also aimed to promote awareness of the ‘Solid Waste Management Rules, 2026’, encourage youth participation and strengthen collective responsibility for cleanliness.
Engaging Students and Youth in Swachhata
Under the ‘Swachh Paathshala: Yuva for Swachhata’ initiative, students and young people were encouraged to participate in cleanliness activities. These included ‘Swachhata Gyan Yatra’, visits to Solid Waste Management facilities and “Swachhata Evam Jal Sanchay Samvad”, which involved discussions on cleanliness, rainwater harvesting and water management. A total of “219 events” were organised under this initiative.
Union Minister for Information & Broadcasting, Railways, and Electronics & Information Technology “Ashwini Vaishnaw” interacted with senior officials of the three ministries on October 1 as part of the campaign. He emphasised that cleanliness should become a lasting habit in everyday life and work.
Minister of State for Information & Broadcasting Dr. L. Murugan also participated in “Ek Din, Ek Ghanta, Ek Saath” activities at the Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC), Delhi, and called for cleanliness to become a people’s movement.
During the campaign, the Ministry’s Secretary reviewed progress with media heads and nodal officers and directed them to improve participation and achieve the campaign targets.
