Armed Forces Flag Day: A day to honor martyrs

Every year December 7 is commemorated as the Armed Forces Flag day or Flag Day of India. This day is celebrated as the flag day of India since 1949. The Armed forces Flag day of India is a day to honor those who protect the nation’s honor by sacrificing their lives. It’s a day to honor the martyrs and their families by providing care, support, rehabilitation, and financial aid. On this day, a small flag is given among civilians and in return collect the donations. This collected money or donation is then utilized for the welfare of defense personnel. The welfare of armed forces is the joint responsibility of government and general people.

Significance of Armed forces Flag Day

  • Rehabilitation of battle casualties
  • Welfare of serving personnel and their families
  • Resettlement and welfare of ex-servicemen and their families

All the three branches of the Indian armed forces, the Indian Army, the Indian Navy, and the Indian Air Force organizes events to showcase their valor, and small flags representing the three armed services are distributed in return for donations.

The collected fund is managed by the local arms of the Kendriya Sainik Board (KSB)- a part of the Ministry of Defence.
