On April 5, 2025, the Rajasthan Royals (RR) delivered a commanding performance to defeat the previously unbeaten Punjab Kings (PBKS) by 50 runs in Match 18 of the IPL 2025 season at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur.

Jaiswal Leads from Front in RR vs PBKS IPL 2025 Clash
Opting to bat first, RR posted a formidable total of 205/4, marking the first instance of a team surpassing 200 runs at this venue in the IPL. Opener Yashasvi Jaiswal led the charge with a fluent 67 off 45 balls, including three fours and five sixes. He was well-supported by captain Sanju Samson, who contributed 38 runs, and Riyan Parag, who remained unbeaten on 43, propelling the Royals to a strong finish.
RR vs PBKS IPL 2025: Archer’s Spell Turns the Game
In response, PBKS struggled against RR’s disciplined bowling attack, managing only 155/9 in their allotted 20 overs. Jofra Archer was instrumental in RR’s defense, claiming 3 wickets for 25 runs. He struck twice in his opening over, removing Priyansh Arya with the first delivery and dismissing PBKS captain Shreyas Iyer later in the same over. Archer’s performance earned him the Player of the Match award.

Despite a resilient 88-run partnership between Nehal Wadhera (62) and Glenn Maxwell (30), PBKS couldn’t recover from the early setbacks. RR’s bowlers, including Sandeep Sharma (2/21) and Maheesh Theekshana (2/26), maintained pressure throughout the innings.
Reflecting on the match, RR captain Sanju Samson praised his team’s all-round performance, stating, “The way we started in the powerplay, I felt we were running a bit short… I felt 205 was a really good score on board.” PBKS skipper Shreyas Iyer acknowledged the defeat, noting, “We gave away a few extra runs and we were not able to execute according to our plans.”
With this victory, RR climbed to the seventh position in the standings, while PBKS slipped to fourth, experiencing a significant dip in their net run rate. RR is set to face the Gujarat Titans next, aiming to build on this momentum, while PBKS will look to bounce back against the Chennai Super Kings.
