Rath Yatra, which takes place every year in the whole of Orissa, has begun from today. Lord Jagannath Yatra, starts on  Ashadh Shukla Diwitiya from Jagannath Puri to the temple of Gundicha, which is the home of Lord Jagannath’s aunty. It is believed that by drawing the chariot, virtue is attained. Lord Jagannath is worshiped as Dashavatars, in which Vishnu, Krishna, Vaman and Buddha are also worshiped.

In the big chariot journey, begins by decorating them with big gold chhtras in front. In midst of traditional instrumental music, hundreds of devotees pull the chariot. The chariot of Balbhadra first, sister Subhadra on the other and finally Lord Jagannath’s chariot is pulled in. These days special offerings of coconut, lai, gajamung, and malpue are made in temples in the form of prasad.

Prior to the Rath Yatra, many leaders, including President Ramnath Kovind, Prime Minister Narendra Modi (PM Narendra Modi), gave good wishes to the Rath Yatra.
