Jodhpur is the second largest metropolitan city of Rajasthan, previously it was the capital of Maharajas mainly Man Singh and Ajit Singh. There are many forts, cenotaphs, lakes, and gardens along with big markets for traditional item shopping.

1. Mehrangarh Fort

Mehrangarh Fort located 125m above the city of Jodhpur in Mehrangarh. The fort was built by Rao Jodha in 1459, the fort is one of the biggest forts in India. The fort is enclosed in thick boundaries inside which many palaces are there which are famous for their intricate carvings and expansive courtyards. There is a total of seven gates in the fort, you can see the imprints of cannonballs fired on the second gate of the fort during wartime. Fort includes Jayapol i.e. victory gate built by Maharaja Man Singh and Fattehpol i.e. victory gate built by Maharaja Ajit Singh, these victory gate commemorates the victory of Maharajas over Jaipur and Bikaner Armies and Mughals respectively. There is a museum inside the fort which is one of the most well-stocked museums in Rajasthan, it consists of royal palanquins (popular means of travel for the ladies of the nobility). The museum includes the heritage of the Rathores such as customs, paintings, arms and decorated period. Umaid Bhawan Palace is presently a hotel which is owned by Gaj Singh. The Palace was built by Maharaja Umaid Singh, grandfather of Gaj Singh in 1943. Umaid Bhawan Palace is one of the world’s largest private residence today, it has 347 rooms along with the principal residence of the former royal family of Jodhpur. Clock Tower of Jodhpur is also known as Ghanta Ghar, it was built by Maharaja Sardar Singh between 1880 to 1911. Rao Jodha Desert Rock Park is an artificially built park which contains ecologically restored desert and land vegetation. The park was created to restore the natural ecology of the large rocky area below the fort in 2006. The park has an interpretation gallery, plant nursery which includes 250 species of native plants, it has large numbers of lithophytes. Trees such as Rohido, Kumatiyo, Peeloo, Kharo Jaal and many more species of trees are there. Some small shops and cafes are also there inside the Park.
