The 3D image of a crater is captured by the Terrain Mapping Camera-2 which is on the Chandrayaan 2.

The information is officially confirmed by ISRO on the Twitter Account. The ISRO official tweeted “Have a look of 3D view of a crater imaged by TMC-2 of #Chandrayaan2. TMC-2 provides images at 5m spatial resolution & stereo triplets (fore, nadir and aft views) for preparing DEM of the complete lunar surface,”

The triplet images from TMC-2 when processed into Digital Elevation Models, enable mapping of surface landform morphologies. These Includes:

• Craters (formed by impactors)
• Lava tubes (potential sites for future habitability)
• Rilles (furrows formed by  lava channels or collapsed lava tubes)
• Dorsa or wrinkle ridges (formed mostly in Mare regions depicting cooling of and contraction of basaltic lava)
• Graben structures (depicts the structural dislocations on the lunar surface )
• Lunar Domes/ Cones (denoting localized vents of past volcanism on the Moon).

According to ISRO, Vikram Lander has been located by the orbiter of Chandrayaan 2, but there is no communication with it yet. ISRO also told that the Vikram Lander is in one piece but it is tilted. ISRO is continuously trying to re-establish the communication with Lander Vikram. So, there is still hope

From the Lander Vikram, the Rover Pragyan will roll out between 5:30 AM – 6:30 AM as said by ISRO. This mission was launched by ISRO on 22^nd July for analysing the moon surface in order to find resources such as water and other resources and also clicking high-resolution images as well.

Reason for change

Actually, Lander Vikram has one central engine and three auxiliary engines. On Tuesday, when Vikram made a move for four seconds, a fire broke out in the engine behind Vikram. Likewise, the engine fire will burn on Wednesday. This will reduce the altitude of one side of Vikram from 100/100 to 100/35. That is, the altitude on one side of Vikram is more while the altitude on the other side will decrease. This low altitude will make it easier to land on the lunar surface. ISRO Chief K.K. Sivan explained this whole process in detail. However, Vikram Lander’s orbit is 104 km x 128 km. Chandrayaan-2’s orbiter is circling the moon’s orbit continuously. The good thing is that both the orbiter and the lander are perfect.

7^th Sept the Landing date

The lander Vikram is expected to land on the moon surface by 7 September.

The mission is to soft-land on the moon surface. According to the latest news from the ISRO, that the “Chandrayaan 2” has now successfully entered into the lunar orbit. The destination is now not so far. The Lander Vikram will soft-land on the moon surface on 7 Sept 2019.

The main cause of the issue is not identified yet. According to ISRO, there was some technical fault which was observed in the launch vehicle system at 1 hour before the launch. The “Chandrayaan 2” launch is now aborted and the new dates will be announced later.
