But the career is a very big decision of every child’s life journey on which his whole life depends, so as a counselor, Dr. Pooja Grover (Child Counselor and Life Coach) says that every child should know few things so that they can choose their career easily.

First of all, every child must recognize his strength and weakness, his potential, what is his unique strength.  It has been observed that children often get confused and say that –  this is my interest. But this does not mean that it can also be his potential because the interest varies with time and experience, but I. Q.  and aptitude does not change if he identifies it.  Your interest can also be your hobby.  Some children have difficulty recognizing their strength and weaknesses.  At that time, they should seek the help of professional counselors and can also take vocational guidance.

Vocational guidance consists of psychometric assessment in which some standard tests are to be given by children to analyze their intelligence, aptitude, interest, and personality.  On the basis of which two or three career options of the child are identified.

After that the second step is once options are identified try to find out the courses that are available related to that option, are those courses available in your city, India or Abroad.  It is also very important to know the admission process for that course, when the forms are out, when is the entrance, etc.  Along with this, the children should also know what are the complementary courses or alike courses available in that course.  You should keep a Plan B ready for yourself because, in today’s time, competition is very tough, if the student is not successful in Plan A, then he often falls into depression and takes any course for that he regrets later, but if the plan B is there, then he can choose from it.

The third step is to know your resources. There are only two things in resources. Firstly, how much time do you have to build your career and second, how much money your parents can spend on your career. 

In the last, you should know the Scope of the career you have chosen.  The scope is not something related to future salary and designation. Scope means how to maximize your ability and potential. In how many areas your potential can be applied because when the potential increases, the money, and designation automatically follows.

 If every child keeps these 4 things in mind, then he can definitely do a good career choice. Career affects not only professional life but also personal life.

A good personality and communication skills facilitate a person’s life and to give information about skills development, HiDM conducted a seminar on Skills and Personality Development. The seminar was conducted by Mr. Suresh Kumar (Professional Consultant on General Motivation & Ethical Values). In the seminar, Mr. Suresh Kumar gave insightful techniques about personality development, communication development, and human values.

Sh. Yogender Yadav, Labor and Employment officer Haryana was there to motivate the students. He boasted the morale of students who are preparing for engineering and medical stream and also tell them the process of becoming an IAS officer. Sh. Vikrant, Chairman of Art and culture department Haryana, member of Youth and Sports Ministry, India and counselor of Labor and employment department also graced the program and encouraged the students for their bright future.  The seminar developed awareness about different arenas of education. Er. Students are ambitious but they do not know how to proceed towards their goal in the cut-throat competition.

A career counselor could be a helping hand, volunteer, guide and therapist, who will provide career information, career development tips, can interpret aptitude and abilities of the person. A wide variety of areas are there before a person while deciding on a career.  He might not be able to get or collect information on each and every area. That’ when counseling plays an important part. Counseling helps in assessing one’s ability, interests, skills, need and desires and provides them valuable information on the areas and according to their need.

In career counseling session, clinical psychologists use certain psychological assessment tests, IQ test and aptitude test to determine the interest, kind of personality and skills of a child. There are some common topics that a counselor may discuss during career counseling session can be:

• Skills and talent required for a career
• Potential earnings of various careers
• Working style of the individual.
• Educational requirement of the careers. How much efforts one has to put while going for a certain path.

The therapist or clinical psychologist helps identify resources, financial aid resources and ways to manage stress.

Verbal and Non verbal skills: Non verbal skills and verbal are also known as hard skills and soft skills respectively. Hard skills are those skills which a person acquires during his training and education and are industry specific like technical skills. Whereas soft skills are the major requirement of all the organizations as it includes interpersonal and communication skills. Every leader has to be a good communicator because he has to express himself to a team. Apart from being a orator, he must be listener too. He should have patience, empathy and power to resolute conflict in an effective way.

Quick Decision taker: A leader has to face positive and negative situations at any point of time. So he has to be a quick decision maker. Decision making skills comes with time and experience.

Building Relations: Relationship building is an important task for a leader. His way of communication can make or break the relationships. Relationships can be built on the basis of collecting personal information, enquiring about the followers.

Motivator: Effective leader should have motivational capabilities. Followers can feel depressed or emotional at any point of time but an effective leader can handle the situation very well. He will encourage the team and can direct the team towards the goal.

Honesty and Integrity: To maintain a healthy image among team mates or followers, the leader should have ethical and moral values on which he sticks to in any condition. He must be honest towards his work as he will be an inspiration for others.
