Parents are referred to as god, we cannot see god but we have parents. Every year Global Day of Parent’s is observed on 1 June to emphasize the critical role of parents in bringing-up of children. Global parent’s day gives the message that the family plays a primary role in the protection and nurturing of children. It is necessary for the development of children that they grow up in a good family environment, in an atmosphere of love, understanding, and happiness.

Global Parent Day History

In 2012, the UN General Assembly proclaimed 1 June as global parents day with resolution A/RES/66/292. Global Parent’s day is celebrated in different countries on different dates. Like in South Korea (8 May), the USA in July (4rth Sunday), etc. This day recognizes the important role of responsible parenting in the upbringing of a child.

Importance of Parenting During Covid-19

As the COVID-19 pandemic continues its exponential growth, Families having working parents bear the brunt of it, as parents, they have a responsibility to protect their children from the pandemic, and, continue their work responsibilities. Without support from parents, children’s health, education, and emotional well-being is at risk. To promote children’s safety and wellbeing and provide systematic support to employees, Companies, and organizations should introduce good workplace policies and practices.

Also, novel coronavirus brings anxiety, stress, and uncertainty in children as their schools are closed, have separated from friends, and can’t go outside to play. At this time, children need to feel loved and supported now more than ever and that’s where the role of parenting comes.

Also Read Tips given by Dr. Pooja Grover on Bonding with Children during Quarantine Time.

Nowadays due to busy schedules, children were not able to spend the time with parents. But, this year lockdown has allowed children to celebrate parents’ day wholeheartedly and given a chance to show love and gratitude towards the parents.

Every year World Autism Awareness Day is celebrated on 2nd April which is recognized internationally by the United Nations to raise awareness about people suffering from Autism spectrum disease (ASD) worldwide. On 1 November 2007 resolution on world autism awareness day was passed in the UN general assembly and on 18 November 2007, it was adopted by UN member states without any votes.

Theme 2020: Transition to Adulthood

This year the United Nations is highlighting the issue related to the transition to adulthood. More than half of the children of the autism spectrum are not successfully transitioning to adulthood during their high school time due to a lack of opportunities and support. A successful transition means education, decision-making, independent living, and job. The Transition to adulthood process begins when children are at 12 to 14 years old, as schools and parents lay the foundation for skills needed to interact with adult life such as daily living skills like money management skills, housekeeping, and personal hygiene. Teachers should encourage students to participate in youth culture programs and volunteer work. The transition process will help to develop children’s interests, future goals, abilities, and skills necessary to achieve goals in adult life.

What is Autism?

Autism or autism spectrum disorder is characterized by communication and behavior. Autism is influenced by a combination of environmental and genetic factors. Autism people have trouble understanding what others feel and think. This makes it hard for them to specify themselves, with words or through gestures and facial expressions. People with autism may have problems with learning and developing skills.

Causes of autism:

There is no single reason behind autism

Risk factors of autism include:

Families who have one child with autism spectrum disorder have
a higher risk of having another child with the disorder

Environmental factors: viral infections,
and air pollutants.

Genetic disorder: fragile X syndrome,
Rett syndrome and genetic mutations.

Being born to older parents

Low birth weight

World Autism Day brings autism organizations worldwide together to assist in things like research, treatment, diagnoses, and acceptance for those affected by this developmental disorder.

In 1999, during its 30thGeneral Conference in Paris UNESCO declared 21 march as world poetry day. The first world poetry day was celebrated in October. The World Poetry Day is an opportunity to honor the contribution of poets, reviving the traditions of poetry recitals, encouraging the reading, writing, and teaching of poetry, and linking poetry and other arts such as theatre, dance, music, and painting, to increase the exposure of poetry in the media.

To support linguistic differences through poetic expression and to provide a chance to endangered languages to be heard within their communities is the main objective behind celebrating World Poetry Day. The day is celebrated by reciting poems, encouraging new poets to come forward so that poetry is not considered an old fashioned art.

Being happy is a fundamental right of every Human being and to mark the importance of Happiness in Human life, the United Nations observed International Happiness Day on 20th March every year.

International day of
happiness: History

The International day of happiness concept was given by Jayme lllien, CEO of United nations New World in the year 2006. He believed that every nation, society and human being craves freedom, wellbeing, and happiness. He also introduced a new economic model, “happytalism” which entitles to work on the theory of a balanced approach to economic growth that promotes the happiness and well-being of all people. In 2012, the first conference on happiness was conducted by the UN and it was declared that March 20 will be observed as International Day of Happiness. The reason behind choosing March 20 was the March equinox, a universal phenomenon simultaneously felt by all of mankind.

This year International Day of Happiness 2020 focuses on ‘Happiness for all, Together

Happiness for all together means to focus on common factors that bring happiness rather than on what divides us. Our society is composed of different people having different backgrounds and thinking pattern generates chaos between them. The day brings an opportunity to learn about different cultures and communities so as to bring happiness for all.

UNIDOHappiness gave ten steps to global happiness so that any individual, organization, or country can follow and celebrate the International Day of Happiness. There are ten steps to Global happiness

1. Tell Everyone

Tell everyone means to spread awareness about the international day of happiness. As you wish “happy birthday” to someone, in the same way, with an international day of happiness to every family member, friend, professional colleagues, and even strangers.

2. Do what makes you happy

The second step emphasizes doing things that can make you and others happy. Happiness is contagious and it spreads from one person to another. So always try to do things that bring happiness for you.

3. Give and spread happiness to others

The third step emphasizes on giving and spreading happiness to others to increase the level of happiness in both the perpetrator and the beneficiary.

4. Celebrate a happiness month event

Participate in an international day of happiness celebration that is happening around the world to promote initiatives of people, organizations, and nations to raise the level of global happiness.

5. Share happiness on social media

To increase awareness of happiness, share topics and articles related to happiness on social media to raise awareness that happiness is communicable. It spreads from one person to another person.

6. Promote the UN ‘Happiness resolutions’

The two UN happiness resolution is

UN 65 309: Happiness toward a Holistic
approach to development

UN
66 281: International Day of Happiness

The purpose of these two resolutions is to raise awareness on happiness as a fundamental human right and to achieve the happiness, well-being, and freedom of all life on earth.

7. Read and share the world happiness reports

To raise awareness about international day of happiness read and share world happiness reports to encourage people, organizations and nations to celebrate the international day of happiness. These reports include research about what leads to happy people, nation and society.

8. Advance the UN Global Goals

The United Nations has set 17 goals and 169 targets by 2030, to achieve the happiness, wellbeing, and freedom of all life on earth by 2050.

9. Become a global partner and ambassador

Get a badge Of UNIDO Happiness by becoming a global partner or ambassador of International day of happiness and promote happiness levels as an individual, community and globally.

10. Adopt and spread happytalism
