According to official notification, Due to the postponement of December 2020 UGC-NET in view of COVID-19, the schedule of June 2021 UGCNET has been delayed. In order to regularize the UGC-NET examination cycles, the National Testing Agency (NTA), with the concurrence of UGC, has merged both UGC-NET of December 2020 and June 2021 cycles so that they be conducted together in CBT mode. The Application process is therefore being reopened for the new applicants to fill in and submit their forms.

The candidates who have registered for UGC-NET of December 2020 cycle but have not been able to complete the application process, can also complete and submit the application form online on the website https://ugcnet.nta.nic.in, www.nta.ac.in

The candidates who want to apply for June 2021 UGC NET exam can register online through NTA Website: https://ugcnet.nta.nic.in from 10 August to 05 September 2021 (up to 11:50 pm). The UGC –NET exam for Dec 2020 and June 2021 will be held from October 6 to October 11, 2021.

The slots of JRFs of both UGC-NET of December 2020 and June 2021 cycles will be merged, while the methodology for Subject-wise cum Category-wise allocation of JRFs shall remain unchanged.

Today, Union education Minister Dr. Ramesh Pokhriyal in a tweet announced that NTA will conduct the UGC-NET exam for JRF and eligibility for Assistant Professor from May 2 to 17, 2021.

Interested candidates can see the details in the information bulletin on UGC-NET December 2020 cycle (May 2021) available on the website www.nta.ac.in and https://ugcnet.nta.ac.in from February 2, 2021. The candidates who want to apply for the UGC-NET exam can apply online from February 2 till March 2. The last date to deposit the fee is March 3.

What is the eligibility criterion for UGC NET? 

The eligibility for the UGC NET exam depends on two factors: education qualification and age limit. 

Educational Qualification:

1. General/Unreserved/General-EWS candidates who have secured at least 55% marks in Master’s Degree or equivalent examination from universities/institutions recognized by UGC in Humanities and Social Science(including languages), Computer Science and Applications, Electronic Science, etc. are eligible for this Test.

2.  The Other Backward Classes (OBC) belonging to Non-Creamy Layer/Scheduled Caste (SC)/Scheduled Tribe (ST)/Persons with Disability (PwD)/Transgender category candidates who have secured at least 50% marks in Master’s degree or equivalent examination are eligible for this Test.

3. Candidates who are pursuing their Master’s degree or equivalent course or candidates who have appeared for their qualifying Master’s degree (final year) examination and whose result is still awaited or candidates whose qualifying examinations have been delayed may also apply for this test.

Age Limit:

JRF: Not more than 30 years

What is the exam pattern of UGC NET? 

UGC-NET is conducted as a computer-based test. It carries two papers, Paper 1 and Paper 2. Both the paper have multiple-choice questions The duration of both the exam is 3 hours. There is no break in between the exams.  1 hour for 1st paper, and 2 hours for 2nd paper. Paper 1 consists of 50 questions and the questions intended to assess the teaching/ research aptitude of the candidate. It is designed to test reasoning ability, reading comprehension, divergent thinking, and general awareness of the candidate.  It is of 100 marks exam whereas, Paper 2 consists of 100 questions based on the subject selected by the candidate and will assess domain knowledge. Paper 2 is of 200 Marks. There is no negative marking for an incorrect response.

What is the cut-off score to qualify the UGC NET Exam? 

UGC NET has set a minimum cut off score to qualify the exam in all the papers as – 

In Paper 1 and Paper 2, the general category candidate has to score at least 40% of the marks in each paper, whereas the reserved category has to score at least 35% of the marks.

In total, the general category has to score at least 50% of the total marks, whereas the reserved category has to score at least 40% of the total marks.

What is the amount of application fees? 

Application fee is different for different categories – 

For the general category – Rs. 1000/-

For the OBC-NCL category – Rs. 500/-

For the SC/ST/PWD category – Rs. 250/-

The registration process has started from yesterday. Eligible candidates can apply on the official website till 16 April 2020. The application will be accepted through online mode only. The last date for submitting the fees is 17 April 2020. The admit card will be released on the website on 15 May 2020 and the exam will be held from 15 June 2020 to 20 June 2020. The National Eligibility Test examination is going to be conducted in computer-based mode. The result of the examination will be declared on the website on 5 July 2020.
