This is the first gold medal for India in Track and field category. Niraj Chopra has achieved this victory by throwing 87.58 meters javelin. After shooter Abhinav Bindra, Neeraj Chopra has become the second Indian player to win a gold medal in an individual event at the <a href="http://news.jugaadin.com/tokyo-olympics-2020-sindhu-defeated-he-bing-jiao-of-china-and-won-bronze-first-indian-woman-to-win-two-olympic-medals/">Olympic Games</a>.</p>

<p class="has-medium-font-size">At today’s event, Neeraj Chopra threw the best javelin in his first two attempts in the final of the javelin throw. He threw the first throw of 87.03 meters, which was at the forefront. In his second throw, he threw a throw of 87.58 meters. Apart from Neeraj, no other athlete could touch the distance of these two attempts.</p>



<p class="has-medium-font-size">The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi has congratulated Neeraj Chopra for winning the Gold Medal in Javelin Throw at Tokyo Olympics 2020. The Prime Minister also said that he played with remarkable passion and showed unparalleled grit.</p>

<p class="has-medium-font-size">Neeraj Chopra hail from Khandra village, Panipat district, Haryana is an Indian javelin thrower and Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) in the Indian Army. He is the first Indian athlete to ever win a World title in Track and Field at U-20. Chopra was also selected as the flag-bearer at the opening ceremony for India at the 2018 Asian Games, which marked his first Asian Games appearance. With this win, PV Sindhu became the first Indian woman to win two Olympic medals as Sindhu won silver at Rio Olympics in 2016. </p>

										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p class="has-medium-font-size">Mirabai Chanu won a silver medal in the women&#8217;s 49 kg weightlifting competition on Saturday, begining India&#8217;s counter at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. To win the medal, the Manipur athlete lifted a total weight of 202 kg. China&#8217;s Hou Zhihui won the gold medal in the competition, with a combined weight total of 210 kg.</p>



<p class="has-medium-font-size">Chanu picked a total of 87 kg in the snatch part of the event and ended with a lift of 115 kg in clean and jerk. After 21 years, She is the second Indian after Karnam Malleswari to win an Olympic medal in weightlifting. With this victory, Mirabai Chanu wrote her name in the records of the country&#8217;s sporting history by becoming the first Indian weightlifter to win an Olympic silver medal. </p>
