In 2018, Walmart Inc had invested USD 16 billion for acquiring a 77 percent stake in the Flipkart group. Flipkart said this will enable the transformation of the Kirana retail ecosystem in the country by leveraging locally developed technology and help growth for kiranas and MSMEs. Flipkart’s new wholesale online business can serve the largely unorganized Kirana segment and smaller shops can order goods directly through this platform. Flipkart wholesale businesses will also benefit Kiranas and MSMEs from access to easy credit options, broader reach across the country, new product development, and cost-effective distribution.
