It is one of the states which has a combination of northern Hindustani music and southern Carnatic music which is very pleasant and soulful to listen. Purandara Dasa who is a very famous music composer has 740,000 Sanskrit and Kannada songs.</p>

<p class="has-medium-font-size">Karnataka is a state where people of all religions stay, mostly you will observe Hindu traditions and customs. The tradition is replete with showing proper respect to elders and even every part of nature. Karnataka houses many temples and their custom says many things while entering a temple, you should remove your footwear outside the temple, women should not wear any tights or any other revealing dress, and men should not wear half pants or half-sleeved shirts. These rules are strictly monitored in almost every temple in Karnataka.</p>



<p class="has-medium-font-size">Other than temples Karnataka is also famous for big Churches, Christianity also resides here. Many places in Karnataka are the roots of Muslims, Tipu Sultan’s dynasty proves that. Muslims believe that women are respectable, hence they follow a unique custom that women don’t go to mosques to pray so that no unknown man can see them with bad intentions.</p>



<p class="has-medium-font-size">There is a most famous culture among Kannadigas called theatre culture also known as Rangabhoomi. Natakas on literature related to epic and Puranas are also done in public in praise of the heroic characters. <p class="has-medium-font-size">Karnataka has a common traditional dress like that of most of the northern Indian states. Women wear sarees in which Ilakal Saree and Mysore Silk are famous. The Saree style varies from place to place in Karnataka, areas like Kodagu, south and north Karnataka, and Karavali has different styles of draping Sarees. Davani is one of the famous traditional dresses among young females. Dhoti is the traditional clothing for men&#8217;s flok, which is commonly known as Panche at the place. In South Karnataka, Mysore Peta is a traditional headgear, while in northern parts of Karnataka pagadi or patanga (like a turban) are preferred. In their marriage women wears sarees and men wear dhoti and kurta, which depends on the area. In urban areas, Kannadigas wear modern outfits too.</p>

Mangalorean fish curry from Mangalore and Bisi Bele Bath a rice-based dish are some popular cuisine relished by the people of Karnataka. The Mysore Pak, a sweet (mithai) from Mysore has fascinated the world. Other famous sweets are Karadantu of Gokak, Amingad, Belgavi Kunda, and Dharwad Pedha. In North Karnataka palm jaggery is used as a common ingredient, also Jolada Rotti and Sorghum are the staple food of Karnataka. In South Karnataka, rice-based and ragi-based foods are much preferred. Udupi which has its branches all over the world is famous for its Sambhar. Masala Dosa, Meddu Vada, Uppittu, Ragi Mudde, and Jolada Rotti are some famous food in Karnataka.</p>

Karnataka has India’s oldest gold mines and hence it has many gold mining industries and provides occupation. Bengaluru, the capital of Karnataka also known as the IT hub of India has many software industries which is one of the major parts of occupation in Karnataka. Ganesh Chaturthi also is known as Vinayaka Chavithi in Kannada is celebrated on a large scale with their local delicacies offered to Lord Ganesha on his birthday like Payasams, and Kosambhari. The people of Karnataka use willows to make thalis. Apart from these festivals they also celebrate festivals like the Hampi festival to show the richness of culture in the region of Karnataka through fireworks, music shows and pomp procession. Festivals like Gowri Habba which is celebrated one day before Ganesh Chaturthi are one of the significant festivals in Karnataka which celebrate Lord Gowri (mother of Ganesha). Folk dance festivals like Karaga Festival and Pattadakal Dance Festival are celebrated by giving honour to gods and goddesses by performing the folk dance as a ritual. There is also a festival celebrated in Dakshina Kannada districts named Kambala Festival which is celebrated by performing a unique and traditional buffalo race popular among the farming community. These types of the festival in the state of Karnataka shows us the various parts of the culture and tradition of the people.<br><br>Harvesting Festivals like Pongal and Ugadi is celebrated as New Year&#8217;s Day as per the Hindu calendar. Some festivals are also popular in different regions in Karnataka like in the Mandya district, the entire city can bee is seen in a festival mood during Vairamudi Festival. A huge procession is being held to the sacred Melukote temple in Mandya. Festivals like Karnataka Rajyotsava is celebrated as the formation day on 1 November of each year. Varamahalakshmi Pooja is celebrated here in different ways and rituals from other states to propitiate Goddess Lakshmi who grants boons. It is one of the important festivals where Vrata is performed by women in Karnataka. Festivals like Dussehra famous all over the country are also celebrated in its own unique and different way in Karnataka. Also known as Vijayadashami, it is the Nadahabba (state festival) of Karnataka. Cities in Karnataka like Mysore is very famous for this festival as it is celebrated as one of the biggest and most prominent festivals of Karnataka.</p>

It starts in November and runs till March during which over 45 races are held in coastal Karnataka. It is a simple sport activity for the entertainment of rural people. One can visit this event to see the culture and traditions of rural Karnataka. The racetrack is slushy paddy field where buffaloes are driven by jockeya&#8217;s (whip-lashing farmers). Traditionally, it was not competitive as only one pair was run at a time but now in modern Karnataka, it takes place between two pairs and the winning pair was rewarded with coconuts and bananas historically but now the pair is awarded silver and gold coins. The buffaloes are decorated and by this event, the farmers give thanks for protecting them from diseases. This event is a full package of entertainment, joy and thrill and should be visited once to enjoy the enormous experience.</p>

<p class="has-medium-font-size">Ganesh Chaturthi is also known as Vinayaka Chaturthi or Vinayaka Chavithi or Gauri Habba in Kannada. It is celebrated on a big scale in Karnataka. Ganesh Chaturthi is celebrated to observe Lord Ganesha&#8217;s birthday in the lunar month of Bhadrapada (a Hindu month). It lasts for 10 days, ending on Ananta Chaturdashi. Local delicacies famous in Karnataka like Payasams, Kosambhari, and willows are offered on a banana leaf to the diety and used to make thalis which generally exchanged among married women during friendly visits and prayer sessions. It is celebrated all over the country but is celebrated the most elaborated way in Karnataka as it was the former state of the Maratha Empire. In Southern India, Gowri Habba is celebrated one day before Ganesh Chaturthi as it is believed that on the 13th day of the month of Bhadrapada, Goddess Gowri is welcomed and then the next day her son Lord Ganesha is welcomed to take his mother back to Kailasha. The attractions for the people who attend this event are the specially erected temporary structures called pandals in every locality which is beautiful and unique in every place due to its different designs, lighting, and theme-based decorations.</p>

<p class="has-medium-font-size">Nagaradhane is an event celebrated in Karnataka state in the coastal districts of Kasaragod, Udupi and Dakshina Kannada. It is also known as Tulu Nadu as it is practiced by Tuluva community members. The serpent gods are worshipped by performing the famous folk dance &#8216;Bhuta Kola&#8217; by two priests that is Patri (male form) and Nagakannika (female form). This multi-day festival is basically held to show respect towards snakes and create awareness about their multiple religious, social, and ecological significance. People should attend this event to see the balance between culture and nature and amazing folk dance which is so unique from any other festival dance.</p>

<p class="has-medium-font-size">Karaga is the oldest and most widely celebrated festival in Karnataka in the honor of Goddess Shakti (goddess of power). It is a folk dance that overall depicts the rich religious and cultural heritage of the state of Karnataka. It is held at the famous Dharmarayaswamy temple located in Bangalore. It is celebrated for 9 days beginning from full moon day of Chaitra that falls in March or April. It is so popular among pilgrims and people attend this event as it shows the cultural diversity of Karnataka. Most of the people are attracted by its grand procession held on full moon night. It was originated by the Tamil-speaking community known as the Tigala community is Southern Karnataka. On the last day, the fire-walking ritual is done, Veerakumaras wear traditional dhotis and carry sword and dance over charcoals and hit their bare chest with sword blades and then start running over charcoals. Almost 500 beautiful chariots arrive from all over the city and it is such an admiring view for the visitors as they haven&#8217;t seen anything like this in other festivals. One unique thing about this festival is the Karaga bearer who carries pot symbolizing goddess of power confined to temple premises, undertakes several preparatory rituals, goes on a diet of milk and fruits only, leaves home, and arrives at the temple and lead a life of seclusion before the festival. His wife lives the life of a widow and not able to see him on procession, handles her mangal-sutra to her husband and when the festival is over the couple is remarried.</p>

It is celebrated in every school, college, and other offices on November 1st of every year. The history is like, in the year 1956, all the Kannada-speaking regions were merged and formed the state of Karnataka. Events like the Karnataka flag is hoisted with an address from the Governor and Chief Minister, processions, orchestra, and many cultural programs take place, and Rajyotsava Awards are given to the people. This day is listed as a government holiday in the state of Karnataka. It is an overall celebration of culture and tradition which shows the prosperity of this state.</p>
