Wildlife today faces many different challenges, which include, commercial development, overgrazing, industrialized farming, loss of habit, trafficking, poaching. This Day is a chance to celebrate the many beautiful and varied sorts of wild fauna and flora and to raise awareness of the multitude of benefits that their conservation provides to people.

History of World Wildlife Day

World wildlife day was proposed by Thailand at a United Nations General Assembly. It was decided that it might be celebrated on March 3rd because that’s the day, during which the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) was adopted.

Sustaining all life on Earth: Theme World Wildlife 2020

Earth is home to countless species of fauna and flora. The theme for this year is, “sustaining all life on earth”. Historically we are dependent on elements of the biosphere for all our needs, for example, the energy we use, the food we eat and, the air we breathe. However, non-sustainable human activities and overexploitation of the species and natural resources are harming the world’s biodiversity. Nearly ¼ of all species are presently in danger at risk of going destroyed in the coming decades.

How it is celebrated?

There happens usually different kinds of seminars and presentations which highlight the state of the world’s flora and fauna. There are a number of charity drivers which help in raising money for the protection of endangered animals.

This Day reminds us of the urgent need to pick up the fight against wide-ranging economic, wildlife crime, human-induced reduction of species, environmental and social impacts.
