Skoda has unveiled the new Octavia G-TEC which promises to be more cost-effective and environmentally friendly for its customers. Instead of fossil fuels, the new Skoda Octavia G-TEC will run on compressed natural gas (CNG). The new Skoda Octavia G-TEC will be fitted with a 1.5 TSI engine that delivers 96 kW (130 PS). This type of fuel burns more cleanly, as a result of which the emission of CO2 in CNG mode is 25 percent less than that of petrol; in addition, very little nitrogen oxide (NOx) is emitted and no soot particles are produced.

The vehicle only reaches petrol fuel supplies in certain situations, such as when the engine is switched on after turning on CNG, when the outside temperature is below -10°C, or when the gas tanks are so empty that Pressure drops below 11 times. The Octavia G-TEC features a distinctive layout in the TEC virtual cockpit and is easily recognizable by a badge on the rear. The hatchback can boot up to 455 liters, COMBI has a boot capacity of 495 liters.

Skoda claims that the new Octavia G-TEC will have a range of 500 kilometers in the WLTP cycle when operated purely using this type of fuel. A total of 17.33 kg CNG tanks are installed at the underbody store. The 9-liter petrol tank ensures the mobility in areas where the CNG refueling facility will not be available and the company also claims that Octavia G-TEC can cover another 190 kilometers with this fuel capacity, giving it a total range of around 700 kilometers. Switching between CNG and petrol modes occurs automatically without driver intervention.

CNG is a cost-effective option for a lot of vehicle owners worldwide. It is less polluting than conventional cars. For example, by using 20 percent bio-CNG, the car’s carbon footprint can be improved from 35 to 40 percent. Using a fuel mixture with a high percentage of bio-CNG from plant residues and organic wastes improves up to 90 percent. This means that travel under these conditions is almost climate-safe.
