The statehood of Maharashtra was attained on 1st May 1960. Mumbai being the capital city of Maharashtra hosts the annual celebration of “Maharashtra Day” which is held at Shivaji Park. BANDRA FAIR

Bandra Fair is one of the beautiful events to attend. This is a week-long festival, held in Bandra, which is a hip suburb in Mumbai. Bandra is also home to one of the ancient churches, 18th century-year-old “Basilica of Our Lady” of the Mount which is also locally known as the “Mount Mary Church”. This is usually held in the month of September. This event is celebrated on the first Sunday after 8th September which is marked as the Virgin Mary’s birthday.

MUMBAI INTERNATIONAL LITERARY FESTIVAL

BIBI KA MAKBARA

This place is the most famous place of Aurangabad in the list of tourist destinations. The Bibi ka Makbara is said to be a replica of the Taj Mahal of Agra. BIG GATES

Situated at a distance of 1km from the city, housed in the Baba Shah Musafir Dargah, Panchakki is famous as an underground water channel, which traverses more than 8 km to its source away in the mountains. The channel ends in an artificial waterfall powering the mill.

SALIM ALI LAKE AND BIRD SANCTUARY

Aurangabad has Salim Ali Lake and the bird sanctuary which is named after the great ornithologist, naturalist Salim Ali, known as birdman of India. It is an abode of various local and migratory birds. In winter when a number of migratory birds arrive for nesting, that’s the best time for bird watching.

ELLORA CAVES

Ellora caves are 30 kilometres from Aurangabad. These caves are famous all over the world due to their magnificent crafts and architecture. Their sculpture provides Buddhist and Jainism cultures. These rock-cut caves are 34 in number, of which 16 are Hindu, 13 Buddhist, and 5 are of Jainism.

AJANTA CAVES

These unique caves are situated at a distance of 99 km from Aurangabad. The credit for the discovery of these caves goes to the British military officer John Smith, who discovered them in the year 1819. GHRISHNESHWAR JYOTIRLINGA TEMPLE

To view the waterfalls in Mahabaleshwar, Chinaman’s fall is the most significant falls in the state. It’s a bewitching experience for tourists. For the boat riders, Venna lake is the best place to visit. It is a man-made lake covered from trees all over.

To watch the sunrise and sunset, the highest point in Mahabaleshwar, the Wilson point attracts the tourists. It is named after Sir Leslie Wilson, the Governor of Bombay from 1923 to 1926.

Apart from nature and picturesque beauty, Mahabaleshwar has Mahabaleshwar temple which is an ancient shrine dedicated to Lord Shiva.
