Vishmi Gunaratne and Chamari Athapaththu opened for Sri Lanka. Kranti Gaud was bowling the first over, and she took the wicket in the first over. Chamari Athapaththu was charging bowlers, but Sneh Rana took her wicket in the 5th over. Harshitha Madavi hit back-to-back fours to Vaishnavi Sharma. After that, India choked Sri Lanka’s batters.

Tight over and wickets at regular intervals stop Sri Lanka on 128 runs. India took 3 wickets in the last 2 overs with good fielding.

Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma opened for India. Smriti got out early after hitting 1 six and 1 four. Jemimah Rodrigues played aggressively, but Kawya Kavindi took her wicket.

Shafali Verma dominates Sri Lankan bowlers. Shafali Verma’s confidence is high after the World Cup final. Shafali Verma scored 69 runs in just 34 balls. She played with a strike rate of over 200. Harman lost her wicket when the team needed only 1 run.

India is currently in fourth position on the points table. The team has played four matches so far, winning two and losing two. India’s net run rate took a hit after the two losses, but remains positive.

3 games are remaining for India – against England, New Zealand, and Bangladesh. All these matches are crucial to keep their qualification hopes alive. Out of the three, two matches will be tough. If India wins all the remaining matches, they will qualify comfortably. Otherwise, qualification may come down to net run rate, which is not an ideal situation. If India wins only one match, their chances will depend on how other teams perform.

The Bangladesh match looks easier on paper and will be India’s last league game. If qualification comes down to NRR, India can capitalize on this match to boost their chances.

India will play against England on October 19, New Zealand on October 23, and their final match against Bangladesh on October 26.
The post India Women’s Qualification Scenario in ICC Women’s World Cup first appeared on Jugaadin News .
