Player of the Match – Arshdeep Singh

India vs Australia: 3rd T20I played on Sunday, November 2, at the Oval, Hobart.

India won the toss and opted to bowl first. There were three changes on the Indian side: Jitesh, Arshdeep, and Washington came in place of Samson, Harshit, and Kuldeep.

Arshdeep is India’s leading wicket-taker in T20Is, but he was still warming the bench; not sure why. But he once again showed why he’s the leading wicket-taker. He got Travis Head’s wicket on the 3rd ball of the first over, and in his second, he dismissed Josh Inglis.

Tim David was promoted up the order, and he showed his raw power. Marsh and Tim David built a solid partnership, but Varun Chakaravarthy struck twice in two balls, removing Mitchell Marsh and Mitchell Owen. Stoinis and Tim David batted on another level. Tim David got out after scoring 74 runs off just 38 balls. Matthew Short and Stoinis continued the innings. Stoinis got out in the last over while trying to hit a low full toss. He scored 64 runs in 39 balls, while Short scored 26. Australia posted a total of 186 runs.

Abhishek started well, as usual, but got a quick short ball from Ellis after scoring 25 runs. Gill’s poor form continued; he scored only 15 runs and was trapped LBW by Ellis. SKY got out to Stoinis. Ellis again surprised another batter with a quick short ball, and Axar scored 17 runs.

Tilak Varma got out to Bartlett’s ball. Washington Sundar and Jitesh Sharma finished the match with 9 balls remaining. Washington scored 49 runs, and Jitesh remained unbeaten on 22.

India vs Australia, 2nd ODI, on Thursday, October 23, at Adelaide Oval, Adelaide.

Australia won the toss and opted to bowl first. India and toss are like the North and South poles. India lost 17 tosses in a row. India’s start was not good. The Indian batter struggled a lot. Struggled and ended early for Captain Shubman Gill, Xavier Bartlett took his wicket. Virat Kohli once again goes for a duck on Xavier’s ball.

Rohit and Shreyas built a partnership and stabilised the innings. Rohit got out on a poor ball from Starc. Rohit scored 73 on 97 balls. Shreyas Iyer got bowled out while trying to hit six to Adam Zampa. Iyer scored 61 runs on 77 balls.

Axar scored 44 runs, and at the end of the innings, Harshit Rana and Arshdeep hit some crucial runs. India posted a total of 264 runs. Mitchell Starc took 2 wickets, Xavier took 3 wickets, and Zampa picked 4 wickets.

Australia’s start was also not great. Arshdeep gave them a tough time and took Mitchell Marsh’s wicket. Head also got out on Harshit Rana’s ball. Matthew Short and Renshaw built a partnership to stabilise the innings. India dropped 2 catches of Short, which cost the match. India again came to the game with the spin, but Cooper Connolly and Mitchell Owen changed the game in just a few overs with their fine hitting.

INDIA – 136-9 (26)

AUSTRALIA – 131-3 (21.1)

Player of the Match – Mitchell Marsh

India tour of Australia, India will play 3 ODIs and 5 T20s.

Australia won the toss and opted to bowl first. Rohit got out on Hazlewood’s hard length ball, edged and taken at second slip. Virat Kohli struggled with that same old problem. Went for a big drive away from his body. Thick outside edge and taken at the backward point by Connolly.

Nathan Ellis took the Indian Captain in the 9th over. India’s top 3 got out early. Rain affected the match, and Iyer also got out early after the restart of the match. Axar and Rahul built a partnership, and at the end of the innings, Nitish Reddy hit some crucial runs. Hazelewood, Mitchell Owen, and M Kuhnemann took 2 wickets each, Mitchell Starc and Nathan Ellis took 1 wicket each.

Match reduced to 26 overs due to rain. India posted a total of 136 runs in 26 overs, but it was reduced to 130 due DLS method. The DLS method needs some reforms. India played according to 50 overs at the start, but rain interrupted, and they got to know the match was reduced to 26 overs. Then they try to make quick runs. In between, they lose wickets. On the other hand, Australia knew from the start that they needed to chase this score in 26 overs. How is it fair to cut those 6 runs from India’s total?

Arshdeep took the early wicket of Travis Head on 8 runs. Matthew Short got out on Axar Patel’s ball. But Mitchell Marsh scored 46 runs not out, and Josh Philippe scored 37 runs and got out on Washington’s ball. Reshaw scored 21 runs to get a comfortable win for Australia.

India will play 3 ODIs and 5 T20Is against Australia. The series starts on 19 October, with the first ODI in Perth. According to Indian Standard Time, the ODI will start at 9:00 AM.

India last played in Australia during the 2020-21 tour, where they played 3 ODIs. Australia won 2 matches, and India won 1. The last ODI series between the two sides was held in India in 2023-24, which India won 2-1.

Australia’s last ODI series was against South Africa, which they lost. But in the final match of that series, they showed their batting firepower, scoring a massive 431 runs and bowling South Africa out for 155, winning by 276 runs. India, on the other hand, has not played an ODI since winning the ICC Champions Trophy Final against New Zealand.

Why is this Series Important?

This series carries extra excitement for fans because Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, two of India’s biggest cricketing icons, will be playing. They have served India for a long time and have won many crucial matches. Both have a huge fan base across the globe.

Since retiring from T20Is and Tests, ODI is the only format where both are active. Fans don’t know how long they will continue, so this series is special. Seeing both legends in blue again has created a huge buzz among cricket lovers.

Squads

India Squad: Shubman Gill (C), Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer (VC), Axar Patel, KL Rahul (WK), Nitish Kumar Reddy, Washington Sundar, Kuldeep Yadav, Harshit Rana, Mohammed Siraj, Arshdeep Singh, Prasidh Krishna, Dhruv Jurel (WK), Yashasvi Jaiswal.

Australia Squad: Mitchell Marsh (C), Xavier Bartlett, Alex Carey (WK), Cooper Connolly, Ben Dwarshuis, Nathan Ellis, Cameron Green, Josh Hazlewood, Travis Head, Josh Inglis (WK), Matthew Kuhnemann, Mitchell Owen, Josh Philippe (WK), Matt Renshaw, Matthew Short, Mitchell Starc, Adam Zampa.

India will face Australia in the ongoing ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 at Visakhapatnam.

Why this match is important for India?

As we all know, Australia is a dangerous team in both men’s and women’s cricket — but in women’s cricket, their level is sky high. They have excellent control over their nerves and are almost unbeatable. Australia is a strong contender for this World Cup.

India, on the other hand, is the second favourite team in this tournament, especially with the home advantage. This match will be a big indicator of India’s fortunes. If India Women win this match, it will not only boost their confidence but also lower the morale of the Australian side.

Indian Women recently defeated Australia in an ODI match by 102 runs at New Chandigarh on 17 September 2025.
