It is also known as Annakoot or Annakut. This year Govardhan festival is being celebrated on 28 October. Lord Krishna (Sri Krishna), Govardhan Parvat and cows are worshiped on the day of Govardhana Puja. Various kinds of eatables are offered to Lord Krishna. These dishes are called ‘Annakoot’ or Annakut. On the Annkoot festival, there is a law to worship God with different types of dishes. Annakoot means a group of food. Devotees offer Lord Krishna a wide variety of sweets and dishes.

It is believed that in order to protect the Brajwasis, Lord Krishna, with his divine power, lifted the huge Govardhan mountain with a small finger and saved thousands of living creatures and human lives from the wrath of Lord Indra. On this day people make Govardhan mountain in their homes with cow dung.
