Although most colleges are affiliated to Mumbai University many are Autonomous (that can develop their own curriculum) and Deemed Universities by UGC.

IIT Bombay

IIT Bombay or Indian Institute of Technology Bombay is one of many IITs in India. Established in 1961 as a government’s initiative to offer quality education to the youth of India. Since then IIT Bombay or IIT B has remained the top choice for education among students across India. It offers technical courses like B.Tech in various fields of engineering. Other than that, it also offers M.Tech, Ph.D., and various science courses. It has a sprawling campus of 550 acres. IIT Bombay hosts Mumbai’s two big festivals i.e. Mood Indigo and Tech Fest.

St. Xaviers College

St. Xaviers is one of the oldest colleges in Mumbai. As it was established in 1800,  the college has old Gothic style architecture. The college offers courses in Science, Arts, Commerce, Mass media, etc. It hosts one of the most popular fests “Malhar”. It became the first autonomous college of Mumbai University. To get admission in the college, a student has to clear high cut-off.

Veer Jija Bai Technical Institute

Veer Jija Bai Technical Institute commonly known as VJTI is the most popular Engineering college of Mumbai. It is an autonomous college that is affiliated to Mumbai University. It was established in 1887 is one of the oldest engineering colleges in Mumbai. It offers degrees in various engineering streams. VJTI has through all these years established itself as a premier engineering institute in India.

Jai Hind College

Jai Hind is one of the most famous colleges in Mumbai. It is located on Marine Drive. It was also featured in India Magazine as one of the top colleges in Mumbai in the year 2000. It was initially established as an Arts and Science college, commerce was introduced later in the year 1980. Today it offers many courses like B.Sc, BMM, BMS, BFM, BFA, BA, etc. Jai Hind college has two Junior colleges i.e. FYJC and SYJC. Ramanarain Ruia

Ramanarain Ruia is one of the best colleges for science studies in Mumbai. It was established in 1937 and was granted autonomous status in the year 2017. The courses offered are B.Sc in various streams like biotechnology, botany, zoology, statistics, and microbiology, etc. and BA in literature, economics, political science, psychology, etc. The college also offers BMM. It offers a Diploma in streams like IT, Bioinformatics, travel, tourism, and Business Journalism and also similar certificate courses.

SNDT- Shreemati Nathibai Damodar Thackersey Women’s University

 Shreemati Nathibai Damodar Thackersey Women’s University or SNDT is the first women’s university in India. It was established in the year 1916. The university has colleges all over Mumbai and Pune. It is a Government-funded university. The university has 174 colleges and about 39 departments offering courses like Home Science, Nutrition, textile, etc. It is also the first women’s university in Southeast Asia.

D Y Patil University

Located behind the famous D Y Patil Stadium, D Y Patil University is one of the top universities in Navi Mumbai with the college offering more than 200 courses right from medicine. It is a Deemed to be University. It has a sprawling campus with lush green trees and many facilities in the college. It has got various sports centers, grounds, and courts for the use of students. TIFR- Tata Institute of Fundamental Research

It is dedicated to research mainly in science and mathematics. It is a deemed university.
