The Union finance ministry on Tuesday extended the deadline for filing income tax returns for the assessment year 2021-2022 till March 15, 2022. The ministry said in a statement that the extension was granted after considering the problems experienced by taxpayers due to the current Covid-19 scenario in the country and in e-filing of various audit reports under the provisions of the Income Tax Act, 1961.

The Finance Ministry has also extended the date of submission of the tax audit report from 15 January 2022 to 15 February 2022 and the deadline for filing ITR for such taxpayers has been extended till March 15, 2022.

The deadline for filing Income Tax Return for ordinary taxpayers ended on December 31, 2021. This year, taxpayers had to face a lot of problems due to the COVID 19 crisis and the launch of a new portal by the Income Tax Department.
