The announcement from Tikait came a day after he said on Saturday in a tweet in Hindi.

 That the demand for a guarantee on MSP will continue. “The families of farmers have lost more than 700 of their loved ones in the movement. Farmers will never forget these days of last year,”

Tikait further claimed that the farmers who had been protesting at Delhi’s borders for more than a year had withdrawn based on promises made by the Centre in a letter dated December 9, 2021, but the pledges had yet to be delivered by the government.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said in November 2021 that the Centre would recall three of the three farm laws, prompting protests on the outskirts of Delhi by various farm unions, led by the Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM).

Following the announcement, the Farm Laws Repeal Bill, 2021, was appealed in both chambers of Parliament on the first day of the Winter Session on November 29, 2021, repealing the three laws.

In addition, the Centre announced that a committee would be formed to work on a new framework for the minimum support price (MSP), which, together with the repeal of the three laws, has been one of the main requests from farmers.

(BKU) Bhartiya Kisan Union leader Rakesh Tikait said after the meeting with the Union Home Minister Amit Shah that the government is continuously trying to stop this protest instead of fulfilling the demands raised by farmers against the farmer’s bill. The central government is promising to amend the new bill introduced but farmers union across the country wants the government to withdraw this bill.

He later included that the government should bring a bill on the minimum support price (MSP) because the newly introduced bill doesn’t have any guarantee whether benefits of MSP will be given to farmers. Till today five rounds of meetings between government officials and farmers have taken place but there’s no conclusion to end this crisis. The farmers are protesting against the Farmers’ Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, 2020; the Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Services Act, 2020; and the Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act, 2020. After the no result from the last talk with government officials farmers are saying to escalate this protest by blocking highways to further increase the pressure on the government.

On Wednesday, the farmer’s union leaders said that they will protest near BJP offices on December 14, and on December 12 they will block Delhi-Jaipur and Agra highways.
