This is one of the major events for which Allahabad is known for. On every six-year gap, there’s Ardh Kumbh which is said to be half Kumbh, and after every 12 years, there’s Kumbh which is the main Kumbh Mela is organized. People in a count of millions come to experience the power and the aura of this event. It is an almost two-month event, many people come from trains and walk many kilometers to reach Sangam. People of Allahabad serve water and food to those for free. A lot of management is done for the outsiders like tents, washrooms, food, police headquarters to help people.

LOKNATH HOLI

Holi is a festival that is loved by all as it brings immense joy and happiness. It’s a day when we even forgive those people who have done wrong with us. In Allahabad on this day, in Loknath which is in Chowk people gather to play Holi. People from all the parts of the town come here to celebrate Holi with their friends. Here Holi is played in a very desi style while coloring each other and dancing on old and latest Bollywood songs. This is a kind of an open party which starts in the morning and goes till evening.

INDIRA MARATHON

On the birth anniversary of our former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, a national marathon takes place of 42km which starts from the home of Indira Gandhi i.e. Anand Bhawan. The Marathon takes turns all around the city, athletes from different cities come here to participate as it is a national marathon. At certain distances, things for people to fresh-n-up are available along with that an ambulance also runs along with athletes.

INSIGHT

It is an annual event in Allahabad organized by the VIAET department of SHUATS. This event is for students from all around the city. Students from different colleges come here to showcase their talent and take part in fun events. It is a 2-day event with a number of activities like games, dancing, singing, fashion show, writing, skits and many more. There is a panel of judges for the judgment. It is a great opportunity for students to catch-up and get together with different students from other colleges and have an on-field battle to know who’s better.

JANMASHTAMI

On this day every temple sets up a ‘jhanki’ of Lord Krishna showing how he spent his life in the village and killed the monsters when he was just a kid or we call Krishna Leela.

The whole market is flickered with colorful stalls of clothes for Lord Krishna, decor items, and colorful handi. On the ground of Chowk fire station, there’s a Temple of Shree Krishna which is embellished with flowers, and a huge jhanki is decorated with a  funfair on the outer side.

CHRISTMAS

No matter what religion you’re from, this festival is celebrated by everyone in the city.  you’ll find a heck of rush as there’s a funfair at Saint Joseph School with loads and loads of food stalls and giant swings. Hundreds of people visit there to enjoy themselves. In Saint Cathedral Church people come from miles to light a candle and to adore the beauty of it as it is decorated with fairy lights and big star-shaped paper items.

NAVRATRI

People of every locality of the city make a pandal and embellish it in their own style. Some are designed with only white flowers, some with multicolored flowers, whereas some are made like a temple itself. It’s great to see such alluring pandals. During Navratri, everyone visits the pandal of every locality and there’s a competition between them, and the one with most visitors wins. Each day of Navratri is assigned to every zone and according to their turn, they arrange a funfair in which different Rath comes one after another on which theatre artists dressed as Lord depicts a play showing the greatness of God. On the day of Dusshera, Ravan Dahan occurs, and also the winner of the Pandal contest is announced.

ENIGMA

It is a techno-cultural event organized by the United College of Engineering and Research. Every year a celebrity singer is invited and a concert is held till midnight. In the concert, outsiders are allowed through passes.

FURNITURE AND HOME DECOR SHOW

It is a 3-day event in KP ground in which sellers from the whole town come to sell their best products.  The item from fitness, lifestyle, beauty, decoration, and furniture are sold here. Chandlers, sofas, paintings, statues, and many more things can be available. This event gives a great exposure to the shopkeepers and helps them to showcase what all they have to offer.

SHILP MELA

If you’re visiting Allahabad during the winter season, you’ll be having an advantage of shopping from the whole Indian market as it has a variety of items belonging to different cultures and regions. But before visiting this place you must confirm the date that announced months before so that people from different parts of India can manage to come here to set up their stalls. SHILP MELA

It is a handicraft and handlooms fair with many different stalls of food from different parts of the world. This fair organized mainly before and during winter from September to December on several gaps. This fair is one of the most favorite fairs of the people as it has stalls of many decorative items, handmade clothes, ornaments, chocolates, shoes, carpet, etc along with the cultural programs in which every kind of artist is allowed to take part.

KUMBH MELA

Who doesn’t know about Kumbh mela? It is known to every Indian. This mela starts from mid-January and runs till March the first week. It takes place every twelve years in which millions of people gather to experience the holy program at Allahabad. The whole area around the river is decorated and thousands of tents are placed for the people coming from different parts of the world. All the sadhus of India from every akhada come here to spend their kalapavas. You must not skip any chance to attend this two-month festival as it is the holiest days which comes after a very long interval of time and it is said that those who take a dip at Sangam during all the major days of Kumbh and follows kalpavas by staying at the bank of river like saints attained moksha or salvation. No doubt this is said to be the world’s greatest religious gathering.

CHOWK

Chowk is a market place with hundreds of shops on roadsides and in narrow galleries. You will be able to find everything at this place from your favorite book to your favorite jewelry and that too in your budget. Even the street food is mouth-watering which you will definitely like to have after hours of shopping.

LOKNATH

Loknath is Our former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru and Lal Bahadur Shastri’s favorite place where they used to have their dear mini masala samosa. Even our other former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee kept coming to this food lane to have mooti choor ke laddoo. This place has its own aura with yellow old Havelis round and you will feel like you have stepped into the early 90s.

PHAPHAMAU BRIDGE

It is an old Bridge made on the instructions of Lord Curzon, thus it is also called as Lord Curzon Bridge. This Bridge was used for the trains to pass but now it is closed as it is not in use anymore. Young people visit here very often as they find this place very fascinating and perfect for clicking pictures. A scene from the movie “Shadi mei zaroor ana” is also shot here.

LOKNATH HOLI

We highly recommend you to visit Allahabad during Holi festival as during holi at this place people gather from all over and a huge crowd plays Holi and dance on DJ  from morning till the evening.

ARAIL GHAT

It is a pleasant ghat with less crowd and the whole place is surrounded by a river on right and farms on the left with few old houses and temples. It is a great place to spend time with your loved ones while having a short drive with a road covered with trees and enjoying the beauty of nature. You will mostly find students on the riverside enjoying themselves.

NAINI BRIDGE

It is a hanging bridge on wires just like one in Kolkata. In the evening people come here to see the drowning sun in the river and to get some fresh air. Mostly people like to take selfies here.

AGGIES

It’s a dairy in Sam Higginbottom University that is famous for its quality ice cream and flavored milk. The dairy gives students practical knowledge about dairy farming.

SOPHIYA LAWRENCE

Sophiya Lawrence is the famous beetle shop of Allahabad serving the best beetle or you can say ‘paan’. Every visitor is suggested to try it once. For its outstanding quality, it was even asked to serve in the famous TV show ‘Rakhi ka Swayamvar’.

EAT ON

The most delicious biryani of Allahabad is spooned out here. If you’re a biryani lover, you must have this. Eaton has a lot of rush for a reason, especially in the evening. But don’t plan for it on Tuesday cause you’ll find it closed.

BABA DHABA

It is a Dhaba found on the way towards M.P. This Dhaba provides you authentic food there are many other Dhaba with a similar name to gain customers but the original Baba Dhaba is in a proper village style and the food is served on a charpoy. The building is very old and will give you an old school vibe. Apart from food it also serves tea made of pure milk.

HEERA HALWAI

It is a perfect place to munch on in the early morning with jalebis and in the evening with spicy samosa. It gives quality snacks that even the politicians take out some time to enjoy.

DIHAATI RASGULLA

You’ll find it in Behrana while going towards Ganga ghat, as the name suggests it serves quite big rasgullas in a desi handi style. These rasgullas are served fresh and are more big and spongy than our daily ones.

BOATING CLUB

As this city is famous because of river Ganga, a boating club for the people is there offering boating. You can even see the fort near it.

FUN GAON

It is a water park filled with different high and low slides for every age group along with multiple pools, wave pools, rain dance, food court. Along with that, there is a lot of swings to play with.

KHUSRU BAGH

A place where the tomb of Mughal ruler Jahangir son Khusrau, daughter Nithar, and wife Shah Begum is placed. All three tombs are embellished with fine Persian art and painting from top to bottom along with calligraphy done on it. It is a perfect example of Mughals’ architecture and a must-visit place while traveling Allahabad.

ALL SAINTS CATHEDRAL

It is an old church built by the Britishers having circular boundaries. It is a sight of heritage made with thick cream color bricks and designed by fine red limestone and decorated with paintings on glass. Every Sunday people come here to pray and on Christmas, you’ll find it mesmerizing as it is covered with fairy lights blinking in the night marking its sight worth watching.

PICNIC AT SARASWATI GHAT

Sarawati Ghat is Everyone’s favorite picnic spot in Allahabad being along on riverside.   The atmosphere here is so pleasant and joyful that you’ll feel relaxed and enjoy your time with your family. There’s a boat club near it so if you want to enjoy boating you can join there.

MUSEUM TRAVEL

Allahabad Museum is a very old one made by the Britishers in 1931. It has a number of paintings along with some very rare Russian ones made by a famous painter Roerich. It also possesses a Smriti Vahan which was used to sprinkle the ashes of Mahatma Gandi on the pious land of Prayag. It also includes the original manuscript written by Jawaharlal Nehru “In and out of prison”.

NCZCC

Many theatre acts are shown at this place, people from different theatre school are invited here to show their talent among everyone.

PLANETARIUM

It is situated near Anand Bhawan, this place is fun for kids, it has a total of 5 shows in a day in which you’ll be able to see the whole universe, constellation, solar system, sapt rishi Mandal, all through the projector.

MINTO PARK

It is a park having a lot of statues from the British empire and would enjoy the greenery around along with architecture worth watching.

NETRAM

Netram is a sweet shop in Katra which is not only known for its sweet but also for its kachori and dum aloo, keep it on the top of your list.

BHITA

It is a place 18km far from main city and is a perfect destination for long drives. There’s a Lord Shiva Temple which is placed in  the center of Yamuna river. Omkar movie was shot here.

HANUMAN MANDIR

Hanuman Mandir at civil lines is a place with a huge Hanuman idol along with two normal-sized idols of Lord Krishna and Goddess Saraswati. Additionally, there is a separate temple for Lord Shiva with multiple Shivlings.  A gymnasium is also available for fitness lovers.
